What and why do you come to this board? Let's talk square biz yall.....

yeah - we need a BAF addiction board......

I am a newbie and I didn't even know about the BAF forum when I first joined OH. I mainly lurked and posted a few times on the Main Board and when I was considering the Lap Band I was on that board so much trying to get all the information I could....

My sister told me about BAF and I have been hooked every since! I come here because I enjoy the "Love" in the room...I enjoy the real talk about any and everything....I havent' had my surgery 
yet and I came on here to find people like me....my black bruhs and sistahs....who can relate to "our" issues and challenges and give good advise....

Like Mack Mama said, I wanted to know that there were women,     Black women who went through the surgery, made it through and are a TESTIMONY to this journey.....

I'm here because of all the places on these boards to be.... I CHOOSE to be HERE....the encouragement, support, laughs, prayers, EVERYTHING is the bomb and just what this sistah needs!

Hi There:
I come to OH and these Forums for one reason...Information, and the Forums for anecdotal information. I want to get the view of those who have experienced WLS. There is a point where the facts, scientific data and research can not give you what you need to know or after a while it becomes almost irrelevant because it can be manipulated. So I think  and feel that to really do a good job of research on WLS I need both, the scientific and anecdotal.


I have never been one to enjoy too much Cyber socializing, I am a person on person, person. You never know who lurks behind a screen name, so I have never been crazy about getting to personal with online people. The other reasons such as support, affirmation, REAL Friends...I get from my personal and home life. A Cyber or phone buddy is just that.

Unfortunately, I did not know about OH until after I had surgery in May of 2008.  After surgery, I did not see my Dr but, I had a LOT of questions.  I was referred to the site by a NUT in the hospital via a book she gave me.  I joined after getting home and really needed information on how to cope with how I was feeling. 

I found BAF in December 2008 - by accident.  So far, I have gotten referrals and information from those who are veterans as well as advice and support.  What I like is that no one is judgemental but supportive and those who have had the surgery can understand the struggle.  I found that my family and friends do not understand as they have not walked in my shoes.

Some of the things that have been shared on the sight are similar to things I have gone thru so, that also lets me know, its not just me.

I come on here because I need to know there are people out there with my same struggle. Each time I come on, I find somebody has faced something that I thought I was alone in.

And I aint gonna lie,, I like coming on here, because you women remind me of my wife and mother. And it aint NOTHING like a Black woman, speaking her mind.
