RNY vs Lap Band

I originally chose the Lap Band because I felt it was less invasive, less complications, etc, etc. but after much research and talks with my NUT we came  to the conclusion that the Lap Band would not work for me because of my eating habits...plus I didn't want to have to deal with the fills and unfills (some insurance doesn't even cover fills so check yours if you decided to do the Lap Band) and I also wasn't comfortable with the port being inside of me and flipping, busting a stitch etc.....

After meeting with my surgeon and discussing my joint deterioration in my knees, he decided that the RNY would be best for me to get the weight off of my body at a faster rate than the band. In his opinion, he felt that his band patients weren't as successful as his RNY patients.

But as it has been stated, this is a real personal decision and everyone is affected differently.

AS for the surgery itself...EVERY surgery has complications... {I have had 3 c-sections} and anytime a surgeon has to go into your body for anything it is invasive...I know that my surgeon explained to me that the same way he laproscopically does the RNY, he does the lap band....so again its personal....

As for the discipline...ANY weight loss surgery, regime requires discipline...these are just tools to assist us and if our heads are not in this to keep the weight off, whether we have RNY, lap band or any other weight loss plan we WILL gain the weight back....1 pound at a time the way we have always done....
So whatever you decide just make sure that you buy into the long term commitment to keep the weight off once it comes off....

I am looking forward to my RNY next month....ready to do this once and for all!!!
