Are you serious???
This morning I was reading the Washington Post and I had to shake my head. It was talking about all the folks coming to DC for the inauguration and it read...."While it's great to be part of history, particularly on an occasion as momentous as the inauguration of Barack Obama, America's 44th President and its first half-black one......."
HELLOOOOOOO, Since when do we describe someone as half-black? Bi-racial yes, BUT half-black?? give me a freaking break already
LaVerne,
Ur right about the condescending thing. The unfortunate thing is that there are a myriad of them who think that whatever right / privledges we've fought for and won all these years are things that are "granted" by the "kind, gentle massas"
Another unfortunate thing is that there are also those who seem to think that the only "Americans" are white Americans. Anyone else is a foreigner / immigrant/ illegal alien, etc. Never mind the fact that the only true Americans are those who's lands were snatched from them.
That the president was describes as "half-black" is comical in that if the kkk were to take a shot at him, i sincerely doubt they would acknowledge the "half-white" part of him. The thing is, the term "bi-racial" is a relatively new one. I remember when I was growing up, "half-(fill in the blank)" was used all the time. In the newspaper, its almost as if they want to acknowledge him as the first black president of the united states, but not quite all the way black; like the paper wants to "claim" him as one of their own. Sort of. lol. Oh well.
"When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer." Plutach. Not true, for there are always more worlds to conquer.

A stranger was seated next to a little black girl on the airplane when the stranger turned to her and said, "Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger." The little girl, who had just opened her coloring book, closed it slowly and said to the stranger, "What would you like to talk about?" "Oh, I don't know," said the stranger. "Since you are a Negro, do you think that So-called President Elect Barack Obama is qualified for the job?" and he smiles. > "OK", she said. 'That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass -. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?" > The stranger, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea." > To which the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss President Barack Obama... when you don't know sh*t?" |

We all say what we think we would do if confronted by comments like that or someone that was being purposely racist/prejudice, but most (including myself) would have just been so in shock that I wouldn't be able to speak AT ALL! Its probably because out here in Cali we are the LIBERAL state, so that type of thing is so under the microscope and peeps like that tend to TRY and be really covert about it.
