i came home last nite only to find babygirl and her fake beyonce destiny child girlfriends watching some young chump on BEt try to sing... "that ain't real music, that's just some cat who spent a few hours in the studio learning how to drown his voice behind a bass line."   'Ya'll want to hear some real music?  Chekc this out."  I grabbed my ipod and plug it into the surround sound system.. I hit em with some of the classics, "RIght as Rain by the Stylistics, Sunshine by Enchantment, Don't Turn Around by Black Ivory, Say YOu Love Me by DJ Rogers,.."GOd, why he singing like a girl?  Why he screaming like that?  Why he sound so sad?"   Ignorant little heifas that they are, i feel sorry for them.  Cause if they knew better they'd do better and expect more than they getting..this generation of young sistas will be the first to know nothing of the art of courting and romancing.. They will never know the romance of a blue light basement party with a some barry white and a bottle of mad dog 20/20.. they will never learn how to slow drag with a cat and stay out the corner at the same time.. they will never hear a rap that doesn't rhyme... they will never have a young man sit and stimulate them with some real deep conversation.. i'm so glad to have those memories..of days long past when we use to sit in the park and practice our "raps" on each other before we went our girlfriend's houses.."Yo D, that line was weak man you stole that from that earth wind and fire song!"  I will never forget those hot summer nites of Old E sitting around a boom box with my boys listening to WNJR's "Stroll Down Memory Lane with Jerry Bledsoe on the AM dial"  We learned the rules of this game called romance by watching how the older cats conducted themselves with their women.. No cursing, nothing rude or loud, just low and slow baby... damn shame if you ask me..a whole generation walking around numb and dumb to their true essence..i don't know maybe i'm just getting too damn old..

Daydreamin' and I'm thinkin' of you...ahhhh, the memories!!!!

Nothing like going back to the best music in the world - the music of the 70's/80's...Fortunately, I listen to it ALL the time, so I don't know much about Beyonce and the rest of them...

He's the kinda guy that you give your everything, trust your heart, share all of your love, til death do you part...I wanna be what he wants, when he wants it and wherever he needs it...

Yep, that's the song right thur - for real!

Donnie, we are living in the same generational difference age that our parents endured...I guess you'll have to understand where they are coming from, yet also teach them about music from the past.  My 28 year old loves MY music, because I exposed him to it - he is an old school and neo-soul junkie, but loves some of the hip-hop/rap of the next generation.

Good luck with the understanding of HER music!

LOL, technically a part of that generation?  Generations are 16 years, lol....you old enuf to have had babygirl.  Cmon over to the dark side; you are no longer the cat in your head.

And I agree music has gone to the dogs...I have a criteria for a date if when I get in the car, and of the notorious rap stations are on, then sorry lil dude.  Go take you saggin pants (even if it is a suit), precios metal bridge work (figuratively speaking), behind on down the road.  A sistah ain't got time for the bull****.

LMAO!!!!

I really, TRULY think the 'break' in the music generations is directly caused by the lack of TRUE music programs in schools.  I played cello in middle school - wanted desperately to continue in high school, but went to a mostly black high school where you could ONLY do band - no string instruments at ALL!

That 'true' music outlet opened my mind so much to music - I didn't do concerts but I did a couple competitions.... the discipline it takes to do that and the study of music from a 'reading the notes and understanding music composition' angle is what made me appreciate it as an ART form - not just something to nod your head to.

In my opinion - as long as this basic training and 'bridge' to real music is absent, so shall its appreciation be.

I hate to say this; let alone in a public forum, but I agree with you.  I was watching some talk show that comes on too late for me to go to work at a reasonable time (which is why I rolled in at 9:30) and Quincy Jones was the guest.  He said to his knowledge there were only two major countries in the world without a Minister or Arts or something similar, the United States and Germany....(I wonder where the similarities lie, hmmmm).  Seems to me that in way we are asking for this degeneration of the arts.
