Dealing with unsupportive people

Why is it that the people who are unsupportive are the ones who don't know a darn thing about RNY surgery--and when you try to educate them, they just blow you off as in any kind of surgery is bad--especially for weight loss that you should be able to do n your own. I am scheduled for RNY in mid-Feb and many folks have turned up their nose at the idea--even DH.

My best advice...IMO, you've got to do you and try not to let anyone steal your joy.  It (the unsupporting) comes with the territory.  That is why I believe so many people opt not to tell anyone that they are having WLS.  You surgery is scheduled around my rebirthday as well.  Good luck to you.

I would normally say that the malice is coming from the ignorance of knowing what you have been through.  However I only told my immediate family and neither the man I was seeing or my bf knew....I don't play that in my head crap.  Limit the conact you have with people leading up to ur surgery and immediately afterwards because emotions wreck havoc on the immune system.  Take DH to either a group meeting or a doc appt with you....

WLS, right or wrong reveals a lot of things in a persons life...and relationships.  Good luck.

MHO the best support is your own resolve.  DO YOU.

People knock what they don't know and fear what they aren't familar with.

My mother was the BIGGEST downer for me around my surgery!  Heffa ain't even come to the hospital until AFTER I was out of the woods......

3 years later and 200 lbs lost - she tells folk how much of a GREAT idea it is and how PROUD she is of my loss - like that **** was HER idea.

Sorry to say - but you can't change their opinions - you just gotta knuckle up and DO YOU!!!! 

Its sad but you do get flack from those who are not in the know.......but honey after they see the pounds melting the same ones be all up in your face wanting to hear everything you got to say. ..........thats when you sashay off and say sorry I have some where to be
