How Long Does It Take 2

Fall in love or just love someone when you are in a relationship.  My son and his girlfriend has been dating for 5 months and he does not love her and he is not in love with her.  I have been out of the game for a long time, but I thought at least after 5 months, he would have strong feelings for her, but he doesn't.

How long does it take?

I don't know for me I just know when I know.  For me either I like you or I don't like you and I know that fairly quick. It takes a lot for me to like someone. So when I get to the point where I know I like you then I usually fall in love fairly soon after that. I have only been in love 3 times so its not an emotion that I feel for just anyone.

As far as your son is concerned, I think dating is the time to figure all of that out. There may be a reason he is holding back. Maybe something in her personality is making him take a step back.

So to answer your question how long does it take. I think it is up to each individual.

There really isn't a timeframe for falling in love, but after 5 months you would at least know if the relationship was something you wanted to continue.  Is he ok with the way things are now or does he want to end it?

He wants to end it.  Its things about her personality that he doesn't like.  But he gave her a promise ring for her birthday, brought her all kinds of great gifts for Xmas and now, he is going to end it with her.  I asked him yesterday if he loved her and he told me no.  She is going to be devastated.

Awww, I know she won't take it well but at the same time.  Life is far too short to live it unhappily.

I think he got caught the fever. He wants to be a good man and make her happy just doesn't feel her like that for whatever reason. Its something we all go through though. He just has to man up and tell her how he feels and why he feels that way. I suggest to him that he just lets it end b/c if he's not happy now w/ some things then a few months down the line it will turn into resentment and that leads to more problems.

You have to respect that your son has taken the time to figure out if he really has feelings for her/wants to continue the relationship and now has made the very mature/grownup decision to end it.

So many people continue relationships just for the sake of being with someone although they know it's going nowhere.

As far as a timeframe for love--everyone is different.  You fall instantly, quickly or love may grow out of mutual admiration, respect and a comfortableness by being with someone.

When it's right, it's right whether it takes 2 days or 2 years.

Shoot - you could spend 30 YEARS with a mofo that ain't for you and never feel a thing.  He is right to get out if he's not 'feeling' it - after 5 mos, you should at least feel like you would throw water on the mofo if they was on fire.......

Throw water?  I always thought it was "would you cross the street to **** on them if they were on fire?"
