do you attend local support groups?
My hospirtal's program has a monthly support group as well. I've attended every month since August, only missing once in Dec because I was upstairs in recovery. I find that I look forward to the meetings because I learn from others experiences. Now that I'm post op, I will have arena to address my own issues and concerns as well. My group is led by our program's 2 dieticians. One is very personable & comedic (male). The other (female), not so much. The meetings are always packed and I joke to my partner that I'm going to sit with the rest of the herd for a few hours. I think attending as a post op will help keep me on track. They also offer separate meetings for post ops that are 6 months out, and 1 year out. I look forward to joining those when I'm old enough.
I've been searching for a local, non-hospital affiliated group but I haven't found one yet.
Great topic!

I had my surgery out of town and at the time I had my surgery there was a local support group here for those that had surgery at the hospital where I had surgery. Well when I was able to attend my first meeting, I was informed that they had disbanded. I've been to 1 meeting at my local hospital but the dr's here have completely different rules for their patients and I felt left out. Also there were a lot of people either talking about how they drink soda everyday and have gained a lot of weight or others who said that they still peel grapes at 4 yrs out. It was a little overwhelming for me as a new pre-op at the time and I didn't go back. I do think that I'll give them another chance though since I'll be a year out next month.
I'm in central TX and I had my surgery out of state. I called some doctor offices in town to ask about WLS support groups and they told me I would have to get "permission" from the group leader to attend. I did not like that and thought it strange. Of course, it may be a privacy issue so I didn't pu****
I wish I had one to attend because I thik it would help me stay on course and get valuable info.

I am so not a people person and an introvert to say the least. I've attended the monthly DS meeting for Dr. Rabkin's Illinois patients. I've never gone to a meeting for my surgeon's patients. Its good to talk to the older post-ops and see what vitamins they take or see what's going on in their world. There is also good info for new folk that are pre-op or just interested. I can email them and get the same information so the meeting is more of a social catch-up deal.
I think my success is based on prayer and patience. I take that back I KNOW that my success is based on prayer and patience.
