Hello, Im new
Hi Jessica...looking forward to growing with you on this journey. I am scheduled for a revision surgery to the DS on 1/29. I had the original surgery (VGB) 20 years ago when i was 32. As a young woman I commend you for the foresight to begin addressing your weight. I have been fat all of my life.I am now 53. I remember 16. It was pure hell. I weighed about 225-275 during high school. I had the added curse of being that kid that always raises her hand and answers right (most of the time) I cannot count how many 3 o'clock azz whopping i got. And of course all the taunts and nasty remarks. On top of that I had "the mother from hell' who called us by what I call the titled "biotch" method.....you know fat biotch, stupid fat biotch, stank fat biotch , fat mofo biotch, etc)....instead of our name. Then there was her latest husband who we will refer to as "chester the molester". enough said about him......So I ate and ate and ate. I also began to abuse my body with drugs and alcohol. My life has been one bad choice after another. Even when I no longer had to deal with my home issues the pattern had been set. I am finally ready to bury that past and move on. How many years I have left i don't know. But I do know I will not stay on the path I am on. I began looking for help a year ago. I am 26 days away from my surgery
You are young and and you can't beat that. You will lose faster, heal quicker and have less skin issues. Keep doing the research, ask questions. .Our bodies are "fearfully and wonderfully made". I will be praying for you little sistah.

Welcome to the family Jessica! I applaud you for your maturity in researching your options and wanting to make a change to your life. I was 410 lbs when I had surgery at age 31, but I could have easily had the surgery at age 16 when I was 345 in the 12th grade. I wish you all the best!

Hi Jessy!
Welcome to BAF! As someone who has always struggled with weight issues, I will be anxiously following your progress. 2009 is your year! You will succeed, and I look forward to seeing a healthier you.
I couldn't have WLS, but did lose the weight I needed to lose by changing my diet. All my life, I see-sawed back and forth from heavy to thin to heavy to thin to heavy to thin...you get the picture. At 52, I think I have finally figured out that weight control for me is a journey, not a destination. I have to be conscious of what I put in my body every day.
I'm finding that maintaining a healthy weight is not as difficult as I've mentally made it out to be. Yes, it takes effort, but nothing worth it in life comes without effort. Don't get me wrong, I have slipped up, but I am learning to get back on track sooner rather than later, and I've learned not to beat myself up for slipping up.
So, welcome, and if I can help you at all along your journey, it would be a great honor for me!
