5 Days Post-Op: I Have Some Questions!

Fam,

First off, I am truly amazed att the body's ability heal itself.  Only a God in heaven could've orchestrated such an intricate instrument!  Each day post-op has been hard, but each has been better than the one before.  For that, I am incredibly grateful!  (Thank You Father!)

Secondly, I have some questions!

1.)  When you first came home from the hospital, did you find that one side of your trunk took longer to bounce back than the other?  My right side seems to be healing (i.e. less sore) at a much faster rate than the left.  Why is that?

also

2.)  When you were on full liquids, which foods did NOT agree with you initially?  How did you handle that?  Did you keep trying that particular food, hoping that you'd get reaccustomed to it?  Or did you just scratch it off your list altogether?

finally

3.)  What other hurdles do you remember facing during your first 2 weeks post-op?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, I'm a little shy of two weeks out, but I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability.

1. My left side was the most sore, and that's where all of my inscions are, so maybe it's because the stomach is a bit off center.

2. Dairy products. I found out (the HARD way) that I'm now lactose intolerant, so I take chewable lactaid before I eat, or use lactaid milk for protein shakes.

3. I'm not at that point yet, but my main problem is trying to get enough water and protein in.

Which surgery did you have?  And was it performed open or Lap?  Sounds like Lap.  I had open RNY, so I only have one incision... about 6" long right down my middle.

Sexy, I know.

Hey Double O..glad to know everything is ok; and it will get better.  I noticed foods weren't agreeding with me when I got into soft food phase.  And I scratched them off my list  until I got into my 6th month.  When I was in the liquid phase I got tired of doing broth, sf popsicles and water.  ETA:  I also couldn't do milk; so I switched to Lactaid milk; that didn't agree with me and then I switched to Soy Milk; but now I can do 1% milk, but I don't drink alot of milk.

Within my 2 weeks post-op I was back in the hospital for dehydration.

First of all congratulations for making it over to the losers bench!!!!

1)i think my middle was sorer than anything.. I had an incision that wouldn't heal right there too but it was more discomfort than pain

2) I had an experience with yogurt that had me calling Jesus on my 4th day. I stayed away probably 3 months and went back and tried it and now its fine

3) I didn't have really any major hurdles everything that I ate was fine I got my walking in. I was VERY tired at first but some folks aren't and like I said that incision that would not heal and eventually was infected.

Thanks!  Yogurt is the problem with me too.  I can do milk just fine, but I tried yogurt for the first time today and, while it didn't stop me in my tracks, it definitely slowed me down.  I'm gonna try again a few more times to see if it gets better.

Make sure it doesn't have any fruit further out it'll be ok but right now the pouch can't handle it. Also, make sure its reduced sugar or sweetened with splenda because the regular may have too much surgar right now to tolerate. I had problem with real sour cream at first but now as long as its not a huge clump I'm fine. i can handle anything and you'll find that you'll either be at that extreme at the other extreme and have to be really careful or somewhere in the middle. the joy in that is realizing that there is no "right or wrong" it just depends on your body and you work with what you got. Good luck!

I'm going shopping for a bra now thanks to RoRo's post last night lol.

I'm glad to know you're mending nicely.... all that, but you should NOT be eating yogurt or anything 5 days out!!!! Period. Did your doctor or nutritionist tell you to eat this... that is going to make you sick and cause major problems for you..... at 5 days out, I was on broth only!! Clear liquids for weeks, and yes I got tired of them, but i healed properly... what you want to do right now is drink water (room temperature) - cold will hurt. If you have some liquid protein that you're allowed to drink, that's cool too... BUT you shouldn't be eating yogurt at 5 days post op....

Normally I am not so harsh in my response, but I am concerned about that question and I feel it warrants that type of answer. I am 3 years post op. My surgery was lap rny.... and your left side is probably where your new pouch is.... my left side was sore long after my right was.... wishing you all the best... please check with your doctor or nutriionist about your diet... if that is allowed, that's something new....

.... I remember i drank water, boost, chicken broth, beef broth, isopure, and repeat!!! for I don't know how many weeks....
