Congrats, T.
Knowing you have a possible problem is part of solving that problem.  This begs a question, though.  Why is it that there seems so many cases of addiction transferance with WLS?

I find that, for example, while someone used to indulge in edibles, now its alcohol, drugs, sex, or any number of other things.  No, this ain't to be judgemental; its just a question.  I ask because there are people I work with who have also had / noticed transferences after their surgeries

D - in my opinion - there are a lot of folk who end up obese due to addiction to food.  WLS allows you a control mechanism to control the addiction - but it doesn't get rid of it.  Much like methadone for heroin addicts..... with out the loss of your teeth......

There are a lot of WLS folk who are NOT food addicts and therefore DON'T have transferrence - but for ME - I come from a family of addicts.  My granddad was an alchie.  My uncle - crackhead.  My mom - undercover foodie.  So - the behavior is a family trait thing - the SUBSTANCE just varies depending on the member.....

I have done the sex addiction thing, the food thing, the alcohol thing - I am TRYING to convert it into a health thing and get 'addicted' to healthier choices - but make no mistake - I WILL always be addicted to SOMETHING.  It's just my thing.  I'm starting counseling for addiction with a therapist at the end of this month (first appt I could get in) and this chick deals with WLS, Addiction, relationship and other areas, so she seems like she can handle my 'laundry list'.  I am doing this to see if I can find an answer, find a better way to manage my behaviors.........

Hats off to you for seeking help.  Far too often "our" folks refuse to acknowledge therapy as a posititve way to deal with our issues.

I should have done it years ago - but to be quite frank - the mofos at the job have hiked insurance prices up so far - I decided to get ALL the shiot I could think up 'fixed' just to justify the cost..... LOL!

Michelle,
You are soooooooo right about that.  In the past, its always been that thing about not talking about stuff..."keepin' it in the family"....

The funny thing is that even when I was seeking therapy while going thru the divorce, i couldn't find many black male therapists.

I just can't see myself talking to someone that really could care less about me. Thats just me bruh, I couldn't do it. I know as soon as I stop paying him or her they'd be good and could care less. I'm good on that. Thats just like buying ***** to me....as soon as I stop paying she's up! I'm good on that.
Smile for me.........

Trina,
I have to congratulate you on taking your first steps in converting it into something positive.  I've wanted to ask this for a while.  However, it seems the only topic that seems to get people to contribute is xes.

You're right in that many of us don't have food addictions.  I just find it interesting about the addictions.  Myself? I find I'm addicted to Ice coffee...go figure. lol

Can I get in on he sleep tips?  I haven't slept in almost 10 years without help.  For me that is where the alcohol started.  I couldn't sleep, come to think of it, it was after surgery.  My best friend was surprised the first time I got drunk because he thought I couldn't stand the taste of alcohol....well vodka has no taste.

I have been without alcohol for 17 days and I walk the halls at night again, I have taken ambien (that stuff ought to be illegal) and lunesta (that stuff is a waste of time).  I am on melatonin (am I yawning yet?)...I am running out of stuff to try.

MM this is so true.  I individuals would evaluate their family history I am sure they will find the blood line of addiction some where.  My hats off to you.  Keep doing what you are doing.
