We always did black eyed peas and cornbread also. I might get a can (yeah I know)...hubby don't eat either black eyed peas OR cornbread! I gotta try the money in da pocket thang though!!!

He doesn't like any of that stuff!!! Seriously. I do know how to make crap from scratch, a lot of times I just DON'T. I done already revoked his card for not eating corn bread or collards!!

do you make rice from scratch? and mashed potatoes box or from scratch?

Cornbread from scratch
Mashed potatoes from scratch...HATE box shiot!
Rice from scratch too. I don't do the boil-in-a-bag...funny you ask cuz my MIL was telling me to try when we were down there for the holidays!

For this I use the bag rice because it mixes up better but if I'm having rice usually with gravy it's homemade.  Potatoes I have never made from a box.

I cook a pork roast and greens every New Year for good luck and money. 
My Grandmother (RIP) used to make hog head cheese (sous meat) from scratch every New Year. 
We would watch her make that nasty shiot and it was disgusting.  I never liked it but my sister did....needless to say, after watching her grind up the whole hog head (literally) she never ate that again.
