I am thinking about getting a hydrotherapy colon cleanser a week before surgery. it is the one where they actually rinse you out with water. The only thing is.... I don't know if it will mess up anything with the surgery.  What do you think? Have anyone ever had one right before their surgery? I would ask the surgeon but they are out of the office until next monday. I scheduled my appointment for 1/7/09 which is 6 days before my surgery but now I am wondering if this something I should be doing. please advise, thanks

I don't think I would be messing around with any of that stuff right before surgery.  Please call someone in the office to get clearance to do that....just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for responding Kim. I just called and they said and spoke to one of the nurses (funny because I could have sworn they said the office was going to be closed) But anyway she said that it should be fine.  But still feeling a little unsure.... I dont know I think I may cancel my appointment.

I'm sure they will have you do a cleansing the day before surgery anyway.  No use paying out extra money for one of those kits.

this may be a silly question, but what would be the purpose of using a colonic before surgery?  I'm just curious.

okay. well i was initially nervous because i needed to lose some weight because i had gained since my last appt with the surgeon and he told me not to gain anything. I have 5 more lbs to lose and then I will be the same weight from my last visit with him. So anyway I had booked the appointment for the colonix the day before my appointment to get some more lbs off just in case I needed it. but now I am thinking I may not need the extra lbs off.  but the colonix cleans you out. Some people take pills and drink stuff and some people get the hydrotherapy

I had to do a bowel prep before surgery! Ask you surgeon what he /she thinks first. Congrats on your date.

I've had a colonic before and something that I found out later is that you might be flushing out your good bacteria.  I went to a place that did not replace the bacteria.  One of my co-workers found a place that did replace the good bacteria by flushing some in and given you a drink with helpful bacteria.

Since you are having RNY I would ask the doctor if it was okay.  You wouldn't want to flush out the good bacteria and set yourself up for an infection.  I had VSG and toyed with the idea of a colonic before surgery and I'm glad I didn't because it would have been a waste of money since the doctor required me to drink magnesium citrate to clean everything out anyway.
