For all the drinkers and smokers, how long did u wait before you had your first drink after surgery, and if you smoke when did you stop before surgery and di you pick it back up, i know what they say, what did you do?

I never smoked, hardly ever drank before WLS.  My surgeon and nutritionist advised me to wait at least a year, and I did.  That first little drink after WLS made me sloppy drunk...still don't drink much to this day.

I don't smoke and I waited a little over a year to drink. My doctor advised not to drink alot because I would have a low tolerence. NOT! And he advised to wait until I was out of the rapid weight loss phrase but I went against his advise and had a drink.  I drink at least once per week now (not yet 2 years post op).  However, I don't drink carbonated drinks or lots of fruit drinks because of the high sugar content.  Straight shots for me or a sip as a chaser.

I guess most people are better than me but, pre op I drank nearly everyday.  I am no drunk but we drink with dinner every night and most weekends I went out or my husband and I had people over.  Post op my surgeon said at least a year.  I waited until he said my ulcers were healed.  I had an appointment with him on a Thursday and I am pretty certain Saturday afternoon I was sipping sangria.  Not intentionally not as a plan but, it is what it is.  I have had no serious side affects or problems.  But, I think I am the exception to the rule.  I also never get hung over and never have.  I can and do drink all night and then get up at sunrise to go for a run or workout.  So, I am probably being too honest but, like I said it is what it is.

P.S. I have been alcohol free for 4 days.  Just trying to see if it will affect my fitness goals.

I was a social drinker before WLS - and could be VERY social at times.....   it wasn't nothing for me to get into a contest and drink somebody under the table......

My surgeon told me to wait a year after WLS - by 30th B-Day was 4 mos post op - I had a lil something then but didn't really drink again until the one year mark.  I am 3 years out now - within the last year or so I have been drinking at night, every night and plenty when I go out.  Today is my 3rd day 'dry' - I'm kinda like Q - tryna see if I can be a better me without the drinking.

Post op - I get WAY drunk off very little - the high is what I keep chasing..... VERY bad habit......

umm - and oh yea... I was never a smoker.

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

I had a gastric sleeve done and I started drinking I suppose after a year and can feel the drink, immeidately, especially on an empty stomach.

I noticed that I had started to buy a bottle of wine, at least every 1-3 weeks and I decided that I did not want to make drinking a habit or another addiction to contend with, so I have backed off.

I have been addicted to food.  I have een addicted to cigarettes.  I dont want to ave to struggle with another addiction.  I truly do have an addictive personality.

So, b/c I am trying SO hard to remain free of my addictions, I am very careful.

I am celebrating 2-years post surgry on 05/125/08 of an 83-85 wt loss and I am SO very grateful.

I had about a half of a drink around 6 months out.  Other than that I waited till I was a year out. I think that is the normal recommendation.

Just my opinion, but doesn't smoking and drinking excessively defeat the purpose of having the surgery in the first place?  Granted, we all know there are those who have done the surgery for cosmetic purposes.

While I have never smoked,  I do drink from time...the feeling of tipsiness comes too quickly, so I don't do a lot of it.

My suggestion, Alexus?  If you've managed to quite smoking during this time, try to continue to quit.
