No vitamins, you won't be able to swallow them after surgery.  I was only allowed liquids.

Just a few items I'm glad I took....

1. Chap stick
2. Ipod(I slept better without all of the hospital noise)
3. moisturizer( skin was sssooo dry)
4. My journal- started journaling the day after my surgery.

Best of luck on your surgery! Follow your surgeons instructions!

as mentioned essentials...lip balm, lotion (hospital air is super dry), slip on shoes with a good grip (i used my crocs), easy to pull on clothes (can wear the same ones you arrive in) , cellphone (can text/chat etc w/o trying to find the hospital phone that will have the cord stuck somewhere areound your bedframe lol) and personal pillow. As far as the pillow, i took a memoryfoam pillow because it provided more support...plus the firmness really came in handy when i coughed/sneezed/laughed/got up...the memoryfoam tends to shift less than regular pillows when you hold them against your stomach (i had open surgery).  pen and paper for journalling or notes or questions you come up with when nurse/doc not in the room.

I brought pads too. I remembered the previous time that I had surgery (non wls), my cycle started unexpectedly and I had to wear the bulky hospital pads. This time I was prepared. The nurse explained that the hephron (sp) shots (blood thinners) cause some people to experience menstruation. I was given shots throughout two of my three days stay.
