This Christmas...
Dang Dedee!!! I was all through crying, til I read this sentiment...my mom used to kiss me on my cheek - and then bite my jaw!!! Girl, you know that was a precious memory of mine...wow...you brought back memories for me.
My mom and I were not as close as you and your mom, but she did do things that were special to me - and the jaw bite was one!
Have a wonderful time with your momma...and make sure you get all the dust bunnies!

I totally understand what you are saying. I get blue about my grandfather from time to time - I lost him in Aug of 2002. He was the only father figure I had in my life and he spoiled me ROTTEN! My granddaddy was the SHIOT!!! Just old and FABULOUS!!!! AT 75 he was playing hoops outside with me at Christmas when he put in my BB goal.......
Anyway - I had to be the one to tell my mom to cut off his life support - she couldn't be the one responsible, *I* had to be the one to say it, to let her off the hook. We stood there and watched him breathe his last. Ain't nobody ever loved and been there for me like my granddaddy - even though he didn't do Christmas like most folk like to - he made Christmas for me EVERYDAY of EVERY year.
And so - even though my mama gets on my LAST mofoin NERVE - I let her tap dance on that mofo till it bleed - cause I know my soul will have a hole as big as a moon when she ain't around no mo. I will listen to a LOT of white man stories and conspiracy theories tomorrow - and I ain't even drinkin no mo - so Imma remember EVERY damn minute...... (sobriety is a drag sometimes).
And if you don't mind - could you say a prayer for my godsister's 5 year old? My godsister died in November - this is the first holiday for her lil girl not to have her mama around. Bless her heart tho - she's consoling US adults - tells us that her mama ain't gone - she's in our hearts forever and she's not in pain anymore.......

Trina, you don't know how much you have blessed my heart today - in the spirit and season of giving - you have given me a wonderful blessing with this post!
I actually ministered to a friend's daughters at Thanksgiving - it was their first holiday without their mom (she died in March). It was very difficult for them (and for me), but I tried to be there for them...And yes, children can be much more resilient that adults - remember, their hearts are innocent, as they are closer to heaven than we are. So, your Godsister's daughter can minister to you much more than you know or realize - I encourage you to shower her with love. Her mom is no longer in pain - and yet you are especially blessed because you have an appointed angel - intercessing on your behalf!
