Ok so i been looking at youtube and all because i want to go natural with my hair. but here is my dilemma. Because relaxers were breaking off my hair i decided only to get relaxers 1-2 times a yr instead of every six weeks and my hair grew like crazy. Its down my back now and i hear when you go natural you have to cut off all the relaxed hair and just need to leave the new groth.... do i really have to cut off all my hair or will over the yrs if i just clip my ends and not relax itwill it eventually all go natural?? i know this may sound dumb but i really want to know so help me out ladies...

No, the relaxed hair is relaxed and will never revert to its natural state.

People choose different routes when going natural.  I did the big chop 10 years ago (1/4 long all over) and never regretted it.  But, that's too extreme for most folks.  Do whatever makes you comfortable, but realize that the hair will be weak at the point where the new growth & relaxed hair meet.  You may have some breakage and/or split ends.

Good luck on your journey!

Are you getting locs or just going natural?

I've have been wearing locs for 7 years now and this is what I did.

Each month: no touch up, deep conditioning treatment, cut some of the relaxed hair (ends) off, get a braid style or a weave.

I did that until all of the relaxer grew out and I was able to get my natural hair twisted for locs.

I hope this helps!

I guess it would depend on the style you are trying to achieve.
Seems like you can go natural and gradually clip the ends.  Eventually all the relaxed part will be gone.  That way you won't have to actually cut it all off.

You dont have to cut it all off......you hit it on the head. You can let it grow and clip, clip, clip as you go along.

The dilemma ( for some   ) is styling it since the roots will be one texture and the ends another.

But most people two strand twist in the interim which can be very attractive as any other style.

Good luck with going natural !

Are you going natural in terms of locs/braids/twist or natural as in no chemicals?  Your desired look will determine what you will need to do.  I have family members that are natural in both cases.  Those with locks did the big chop and started the twists/locs.  The others have their hair pressed or round-brushed and it looks better than relaxed hair and much healthier.  Some of them have not had chemicals in over 7 years.
The question that I am asked most often:
 Is that your hair??????

eventually the line at which your natural and permed hair will break the longer your hair gets... so if you have the patience to deal with the two textures, clip  your ends at the same frequency that you do the perms(every 6 weeks or so) but  like i said, eventually the permed hair will break off at that line of demarcation as the hair gets longer(since the ends do tend to get less moisture and nutrients than the roots do.... two strand twists are the way to go for the transition period.
