Love came and knocked at the door of the earth's heart on Christmas. And when loved knocked, many ignored it…because they were too busy.
How often have you missed your doorbell because the vacuum cleaner was going, the television set was too loud, or the children were making too much noise? And then someone told you later, "I rang your doorbell, but nobody answered."
In 78 A.D. a very old man was sitting in his hut outside a town called Bethlehem. A teenage boy ran up to him and said, "Ishmael, Ishmael, I just heard that you were one of the shepherds on the hill many years ago when Jesus was born. Tell me, what did the baby look like? Did you see His parents? Was it really so crowded?"
The old man played with his furrowed brow, then ran his fingers through his straggly, white beard. His eyes misted, then became wet. His lips trembled as he answered, "Yes, I was with those shepherds. But I was so busy taking care of the sheep I didn't bother to go and look. I never saw Him."
Don't let busyness keep you from seeing the Babe of Bethlehem this Christmas. When Jesus knocks on the door of your heart—invite Him in.
An open heart is the door through which Christ enters.
Slow me down, Lord. Quiet my heart so I don't miss You when You show up. Help me to listen for Your knock and to open the door of my heart to You this Christmas.
