Okay,

I like Rick Warren mainly for his work in Africa and his book and the fact that he's donating 90% of his profits from that book to charity.

So now that we know Rick Warren's stance on Gay Marriage and his acts in it how do you all feel about him being invited to do Barack Obama's invocation at his inauguration?

Was this his first mistake?

Should he associate himself w/ people like that?

What is it going to take to pull the LGBT and Conservative Christians together and can Barack do it and is this the right step???

Prejudice comes from ignorance.  You can't hope to make peace with your enemies until you're willing to sit down and have a conversation with them.  I know a lot of people are mad, but sometimes you have to start with baby steps.  I hope it works out.

Well, said!!!!

However what are the backlashes from this? If there are any?

Will this be a problem for 2012 or will it be forgotten by then?

You know campaigning for 2012 started 11/05/08

He promised CHANGE.

That means he's going to have to take risks and approach things differently than his predecessors.  That is going to make some people uncomfortable.  It might offend some people too.  He said that we might not agree with every single decision that he makes, but that he would do what he felt was best for the country as a whole.

Americans need to remember is that we have to pull together to make this work.  We can't exclude anybody, regardless of whether we agree with their politics, religion or whatever.

I ran across this story on the web today.  Like I said, baby steps...

Gay man backed for Navy secretary

Some top retired military leaders and some Democrats in Congress are backing William White, chief operating officer of the Intrepid Museum Foundation, to be the next secretary of the Navy -- a move that would put the first openly gay person at the top of one of the services.

The secretary's job is a civilian position, so it would not run afoul of the ban on gays serving in the military, but it would renew focus on the "don't ask, don't tell" policy as President-elect Barack Obama prepares to take office.
