INSOMNIA WTH!?!?!!
Ok...so its not just me thats feeling this. I work nights...and as of late I come home...and I'll get a max of 2 hours sleep....after that ....I'm up the rest of the day. For instance, Yesterday...I came in from work at 8 a.m, and didnt go to sleep until about 8p.m....was back up for work at 10.
Got off work this morning....went to sleep about 2:30.....and was right back up by 4:30. Its now 8p.m. I'm gonna attempt gettin 2 hours before time to be to work at 11 tonght.
I'm taking a trip to my P.C.P for some "HELP" friday morning. PRONTO!!

Okay....I am still in my research phase but what I've learned so far is that our melatonin levels decrease the older we get. I am not 100% convinced we are losing sleep because of WLS...it could be because the majority of us are 30+ years in age.
This conversation came up between a co-worker and I, and she said that she didn't have trouble falling asleep..her problem was staying asleep. This is the same problem I am having. She takes 4 drops of liquid melatonin before bedtime, and she is able to sleep a full 8+ hours.
I want to discuss it with my doc first and get his input. If he recommends I start this regimen, I plan on purchasing some on my next trip to GNC.
Just remember, 8 hours of sleep per night is beneficial in achieving and maintaining weight loss.

A number of people on the main board have complained of post-op insomnia.
I have it too.
I think this is happening far too often to explain it away as an effect of aging. I'm predicting that at some point researchers are going to find that a lot of the so-called "addiction transfers" to pills and alcohol actually started out as an attempt to self-medicate begin because people simply can't sleep.
Part of the body's melatonin supply is produced in the duodenum and it is bypassed when we have R&Y. I know that this hinders the absorption of some of our nutrients, but who knows what other ways it could affect us?
Some day surgeons might routinely prescribe melatonin supplements just like they do vitamins, but it will probably be years down the road. I haven't been able to find any literature that show anybody is even looking at this.
