Should I or should I NOT..............

Aiight - I am in this boggle.......

There is a lady in my department who is on my call center team.  Besides me, she is the only African american chick in my area.  She's young, about 22 and has commented that she has aspirations of growing with the company, learning the business, blah blah blah.....

The problem is that she is unprofessional at ALL the wrong times (is there ever a RIGHT time?)  She has made comments to co-workers that were offensive, she takes jokes too far sometimes and she dresses in a way that doesn't violate dress code - but doesn't inspire the thought of leadership or progression, if you know what I mean.

I recall back in my early career days - a homie sat me down and gave me the 'what for and where to' talk about the business world and that I needed to sharpen my game if I wanted to be a major player...... I listened. 

I am struggling with whether or not to have this talk with this chick.  While she needs to be told - she is also the type to react with some HR complaint or bullshiot mess starting with the rest of my staff.  She has the potential - but just isn't putting in her full effort. 

So - should I or shouldn't I try to talk to her and give her this feedback?????

Your first instinct is telling you she may react with an HR complaint or bullshiot mess...I would go with my first instict and not say a word.  I know you would be trying to help her...but, if you feel she going to react she probably will.

Yea - that's where I was leaning..... I am working on a promotion and a issue like that could really put a speed bump on my fast track......

LOL ! Yes im in the call center. I know your old coworker Oliver Gregg, He was my sup before he left in July, Im not tryna wish up on somebody getting fired so i will say this. There giving me a 9 week severace so and if i'm still not working after that i'm filing for my unemployment but if anything goes down on your end where theres a position to be filled. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (in my best James Brown voice!) Halla at your girl

I will keep you in mind as well.  I don't know if you are as glad as we were to get out of DH-Hell.

Trina, not sure if you remember me trying to help one of the most ghetto heffa's at DHL, but anyway it blew up in my face big time.  At first chick was lik eplease help me, I need the feed back.  But after giving it to her straight a couple of times, I ended up in HR looking like the bad guy.

That said, I think its our obligation to help those coming after us, but choose your words carefully and don't do anything to get yourself in a bind trying to help a homie.  At the end of the day your priority is you and yours.
