I would post on the band board for more opinions but from what I have seen people with diabetes have a bit harder time losing with the band and it doesn't "cure" it like the RNY or DS.

She could lose weight and get her diabtes "under control" but the DS cures type 2 diabetes on the table. The intestinal portion of the operation changes the way the body processes food. This surgery has the highest "cure" rate.

Sassy, I think your mom can lose with the band if she wants it.  I am 55.  If she is able to do a little exercise and follow the rules.  The band would probably be good for her.

My doctor has testimonials of several people who have.  I definitely think so.

I am almost 9 months out and have lost 60 pounds so far. I wish I knew about those last few pounds.I'm just trying to get there before my year is up but I think i may end up changing my goal anyway. So far I'm very happy with my progress.

our surgery date is just a day apart...and trust me i am right where you re...i haven't lost a lb in over two months..so here's what i'm doing..

1. getting a fill...just a small one .2cc's
2. stepping up my workout program to 6 days a wk..no excuses.
3. make healthier choices..especially throughout the holidays.

and yes i am very happy with my progress thus far..i've always been able to lose the weight and i like working out...but gaining the weight back along with a few extra has always been a problem for me..so therefore i am very happy cause tho i'm not losing at this time i am still maintaining....i love my band..

I'm sure you'll get those last 34 lbs off..start working out again and get yr motivation back..you can do it

Be Blessed,

Thanks for the replies ladies.  I knew I could come to my sisters and get an honest answer. It seems we are all in the same stage.  I am very please with my progress.  If you see my then and now pictures, I can't help but to be proud of myself.  I been through a lot this year personally but I am happy with my band.

They say everybody is different but really we are the same.  We start to lookin good and forget or neglect to continue doing the things that got most of us to this point.  Exercise, Exercise, Exercise and eatting less.  I am with you ladies.  Need to lose 30 lbs and my exercise had slowed down to nil and my water was very little.  Now I am drinking again and today started Hip Hop Abs DVD.  Wishing me and all of you the best.  Take care and remember we need to increase what we did to get us where we are.
