I have a question for the brothers I’m going to have surgery 1/14/2009 what is going to happen to my body. I have been told by woman that our skin don’t get as loose as there’s My insurance made me got to support groups but I was usually the only male at these meetings and always the only black man. So I don’t have anybody I can talk to.I want to know what to expect. I am 6’1” 350 Lbs highest weight 380. Ladies your input is also welcome

I think it really depends on your underlying muscular structure.  Some people tend to sag more once the start losing weight rapidly because they don't have a lot of underlying muscle tone and instead have a lot of fat.  Other people, I think, tend to have more muscle tissue underneath and therefore burn off the fat as they workout, leaving a leaner more toned individual.

Hey Steven!  I am only 5'8'' but I had a highest weight of 386.  I carry my weight in my stomach so when I lost - everything ELSE looked great!!!!

Working through plastics to have my tummy taken care of........

HOWEVER - men are blessed to be able to build significant muscle mass - if you do some agressive weight training - you can make it work!!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

Steven,
I agree with Ayy.  Whether you have a lot of loose skin or not depends a lot on your body type and your natural muscle tone.  You may have SOME loose skin, to be sure (most of us do).  Your genetics and your size prior to the surgery, I think , may determine the amount of loose skin.

I am 6 feet with my highest weight of 380 plus.  Pre-op I was 346.5.  I'm now about 208, do have some loose skin (mostly around the gut and the arms) but not all THAT bad.

Good luck to you, Steven.  You'll be fine.

I was 29 at the time of surgery and a lightweight (5'7 256 at the time of surgery).....my genetic makeup is GREAT....before WLS, I worked out on the regular.....I think my age, my genetics, and the fact that I worked out helped me.....(if I worked out now, I bet I would not have ANY loose skin)....I carried my weight in my hips, thighs, and asse....some tummy.....I have a lil loose skin on my thighs, but nothing to puke about....I have lil on my tummy, but it's not like GROSS.

I think it is very good to cross train as soon as the doc says it is okay.....congrats on your upcoming surgery!
