Hello all,
I am new to this and just had my lap band surgery about three weeks ago. Just wanted to introduce myself and ask if there is anyone out here who has had the lap band. If so how has it worked for you? And how much weight have you lost from it. Since I just recently had my surgery, I have no restriction yet and I can eat anything. It makes me a little scared that the weight wont come off. Anything that you can tell me about your journey, what worked and what didn't would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello!

I had the Lap-Band procedure.  It has worked for me.  I had lost 80 pounds but fell off the bandwagon and now I am around 66 pounds down.  I forgot that WLS is a tool not a given.  Please send me your questions via message and I will be happy to answer anything for you.

I had LapBand as well and have been fairly successfull.  I do not regret having the surgery, but there are definately some things I would have done differently.  I would be happy to share with you.  Send me a message.

Good morning,
Sorry that I'm a little late responding. But I dont have access to a computer at home. I wanted to ask you what are the things that you would have done differently? How much weight did you loose in how much time?
Thanks,
Keisha

I'm Ms.Cleo, i was banded about 16 months ago and i am down 81 lbs with 20 to go till goal... I didn't have too much restriction after sugery either, it wasn't till around my third or fourth fill.. I'm actually at a stall right now but i'm scheduled for a fill next week. The band is really a slow tool...it works better and faster with Motivation and Determination!!! it is truly what you make of it...you're still early on in the game, follow all the dr's orders and get moving when its okay...you have to change yr way of thinking...eating to live rather than living to eat....if you do nothing the band will do nothing. sometimes i get stupid...i eat around my band, eating slider foods and junk...eating too frequently and substituting vodka for water ....those things slow down the process...i've been lucky not to gain, but i know i only hender my progress when i make foolish choices..it's not that my band isn't working...i've just worked around it and delayed my success..so follow the rules...eat mindfully...enjoy the things you like but don't over indulge...get moving (upon dr's clearance) drink all yr water and take yr vitamins...we're lucky we only have to take flinstones...don't compare yourself to others whom have had different sugeries.. and even with the band you must remember we're all different. some people lose by keeping a tight fill, i know some whom lost numerous lbs before getting fill number 1...some work out a lot and others starve themselves...listen to yr body and yr doctor.......don't make excuses...just do it... good luck and Welcome..

be Blessed,
ms.Cleo

I was banded about 15 months ago.  At first the band was working great for me, unfortunately my port has tipped and I will need surgery to reposition it. My weight loss right now is bouncing around between 40-55 lbs.   I can eat quite a bit if I choose to, but the two things that get stuck and give me trouble are bread/doughy foods, and chicken that is too dry.  At times I kick myself for not having a different surgery type, but then I remind myself if I was at good restriction, I would probably be down 100 lbs by now.

If there's anything else I can answer for you just send me a PM.

Welcome, and congratulations.

I'm 4+ years post-op and still loving my band.  My weight loss holds steady at 115 to 118 pounds.  It took two years to loose it, and it's stayed off.

Pre-restriction is difficult , but it's the time you learn the most about yourself.  Now is the time to learn what full feels like, and how to stop when get there.  This is the time to learn how to eat slowly, stop drinking with meals, and deal with head hunger.  The lessons you learn now are just as valuable as actual weight loss.

Hang in there, and stay encouraged.  Restriction will come.  Don't depend on it alone to do the job.  The other half of the battle rests in the choices you make.

You can do it!!
