I agree that the games can be educational but there is no comparison to outside play versus parking your ass in front of a tv playing games.  The WII is a poor substitute for physical activity outdoors but it is better than nothing.  We have a nation of obese kids and young adults because we gave in to the easy babysitter of television, computer and video games instead of outside riding bikes, rollerskating, playing kick the can, etc.

While technology is great it is often civilation's downfall.  We are a FAT nation because we can do everything now sitting on our ass from ordering groceries to "exercising."

Moderation is the key but unfortunately many of us don't practice that.

I was very active as a kid, played baseball, football, soccer, basketball, kickball, and was still fat, and I wasnt into games like that when I was younger. So I cant blame being a fat kid on video games. Of course its always good to get out the house and go play, and yes I'll always make my kid do so. But beng able to be entertained in TODAYS TECHNOLOGY is not a sin, I mean WTH???? Yea, alot of things are made easier in todays world, but that doesnt mean its bad, ya know? I mean allowing an hour or so of FUN gaming is not gonna hurt nobody, like you said moderation. Too much of anything isnt good, weather it be working out, food, play, or sleep..... So I cant blame it on one particular thing.

My son is 10 and he has several video game systems...  PS3, Wii (well that's mostly mine), a DS, and he's getting a PSP for Xmas.  I don't have a problem with them.    I grew up with video games and I turned out just fine.  I do set limits, or he would be playing with them all night.  But they're fun, why not?  Especially the Wii - I love that thing.

My son (age 16) has the PSP, Playstation 2, XBox 360 and the Wii (which my oldest son is borrowing).

IMO, there is nothing wrong with having a gaming system.  You can limit your child(ren) to a certain amount of time to play per day.  If they are in trouble for some reason or another, the game is one of the first things that you can take from him/her.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown

I agree not 2 much time should be spent on video games.  My daughter has a Ps2 and a nintendo DS, however I did not but either her dad and grandfather brought it for her.  I do limit her time on these games.

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely who others think you are!

Well....I proudly say that this "FAT ASS" parent has a GIFTED child that not only has been playing with video games since age 3 (Wii, PS2&3 and both Xboxes in the house)but has attended technology camp for the past two summers so now he is CREATING those games. So is he teaching his little 3yo brother to play....hellz yes.

K & K are getting the Wii for exercise LOL....they will have the boxing, the dance thingy.....and such....they will get guitars....one electric one acoustic and a set of drums ~I'm hearing impaired~

They have their own computer now....I took their individual cellys and now they share one celly

We have family time: Operation, Uno ~I hate playing this with them~, Monopololy, Life, Candy Land, and you name it, we got it....that's family time

We read ~they MUST read a book a day at the least and report on the book to me: main characters, plot, tone, setting, etc., they MUST right down any words they do not understand---Kerri also has to write down any word with a prefix or suffix ~this is her weakness in school~

I will allow them to have almost anything I can afford that they want...but they understand that those are EARNED and can be taketh away with disrespect, dropping grades, fighting, arguing, etc.

ETA: Not bragging, but my HEFFAS are smart! It's in their genes LOL....really, you would not believe they are only 8 and 10; their vocabulary is very advanced!  Their speech is proper and correct....I am just so dayum proud of ME.
