Great conversation. My partner has been saying for the past few years that we are coming down to two kinds of people --the haves and the have nots.
One way we can become the haves insteand of the have nots is stop being such consumers -- we don't necessarily need the "NEW and IMPROVED" anything. And yes, unfortunately it's time to have those conversations with our little kids -- hey -- mom and dad are Santa Claus -- no such person as well as have the conversations around finances and saving. Many give their children an allowance; however, is there a conversation about putting half of that allowance in a savings account. Purchase the child a share of stock in some game company and give that to them instead of purchasing the game for the same price. How many of your kids or even how many of you own several pairs of Timberlands but no stock in the company. Today there stock is worth $11.85 while the consumer pays at least $100 for a pair of their shoes -- that's 10 shares of stock one could own and hang on to.
We all could use a bailout in some shape, form, or fashion.
Just don't purchase anything that is not needed to sustain your daily life (many of us are probably doing this already). This holiday season would be a good opportunity to teach our kids about Kwanzaa -- one thing is -- they have to make all the gifts by hand.
Peace,

Peace,
I am teaching my son to save regularly because that wasn't a lesson taught to me as a child and a hard lesson to learn now.
I use the 3 cup method with him...
Spend, save and share.
So if he gets $3.00 (for example) 1 dollar goes in each cup.
The spend is for whatever he wants, the save goes in his savings account or bank which we then transfer over the account and the share is either for church, buying presents for others or charity. It really makes him understand how money works and he appreciates what he gets more.

I need a bailout too. I do not use credit cards and I have down sized my budget for everything. I stay home I do not travel and I am still broke. Raises have been canceled for next year because I work in the financial market. So I need someone to come and bail my family out. We try we work and I have to go with out alot of things because of others doing. Example my d*** raise. Enough of my two cents but I am a little hot under the collar over this whole bailout thing. You work to get your house in order then the economy dips. Well I am try to stay prayed up this is so frustrating.
Sistah I feel you. If Visa was in the banking business they'd probably have their hand out as well. I wonder if rasies have been cancelled for all of us that work in the financial market -- at least those that are still viable.
No need to apologize for putting in your two cents -- all of us are hot under the collar about this situation.
I suggest we all write our political representative and request a portion of the bailout be mailed directly to us for each financial situation -- I'll be that'll get them.

why do they need bailouts?? Cause government won't let the market do what it supposed to do.... CRASH - bailing these mofos out is just slowing peeling the Band Aid off......
America's companies have been lazy and non technogoicaly motivated for FAR too long - resting on laurels, counting on short cuts and just general complaceny have lead us to be LAST in many markets - the bailout will just further encourage it!
