Can you smoke after WLS???
I guess one could smoke AND drink after WLS, but don't both defeat the purpose of a)losing weight, and b) being healthy?

I did both before WLS. I had to quit smoking before the surgery....my surgeon would not perform the surgery on smokers. Thank God I never started back either. Smoking after WL surgery could cause ulcers to form.
As for the drinking, I did start back, but waited 6 months before trying it. I wish I had never picked this back up either...SMH
Alcohol is empty calories! Not good for us at all. There's also the threat of transfer addiction. There are a lot of cases of WL patients becomming addicted to alcohol.
If at all possible...PLEASE try to cut both of these out! I wish I had listened when I was told.

Me too, Kim, but I started back to smoking and they just upp'ed my dayum Protonix and told me to kick the freaking habit.....I have not had anything to drink in over 3 weeks dayum near cause my biotch is open and acting up. If it does not get better this week, my GASTRO doc will stick that dayum tele-tube down my dayum throat and freeze the lil ****** again.....I'm kicking the habit for real, for real!

Protonix is a med taken for gastric ulcers....my ulcer is my lil biotch ~roll eyes~
I have had ulcers since childhood.....never really had a problem with them after moms divorced my daddy.....
Until I started taking too many NSAIDs after WLS....then it caused m;y ulcer to not only open, but BLEED.
After WLS ALWAYS be cautious with NSAIDs, DRINKING ALCOHOL, and SMOKING CIGs.
