You were drinking less than 2 weeks post-op?? I wont preach cause i know we are all grown, but I will beg and plead.  PLEASE, DONT HAVE ANOTHER DRIN****il you are 6 months out but try for at least a year, oh course you wont feel anything, you have no feeling in your pouch yet and when you start to feel the affect, it may be too late...DRINKING IS NOT WORTH YOUR LIFE.

you can drink and smoke but you really should not.  I had surgury in septemeber 2007 and drank some wine in dec 2007 at a christmas party.....and I have an ocassional newport but I don't get crazy with it.  I would advise you to wait at least 3 moths b4 u take a sip...Achol has a lot of acids in it last thing you need is it effing with your pouch just my 2.0-Good Luck!

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely who others think you are!

Well after hearing all that maybe I will hold off.  I am one of those people who tend to think that (It happened to them but will never happen to me)  but I can listen to what you have to say and realize that damn maybe it ain't worth it.  Thanks for the info.

If you are a new post op, please, please do not drink!
I mentored a young lady and I begged her to not drink.  She thought that because she didn't feel anything in her pouch that she was okay....but the healing pouch has no feeling, not for months.  She ended up dying at less than a month out because she was drinking, started eating and blew out her pouch.  Not only is the alcohol bad for you, it can cause you to not have good reasoning under the influence.

I am crying as I type this because it was so awful for her family.

Even though it was hard for you, thanks for sharing because sometimes it takes stories such as this one before folks will stop and listen.

EXACTLY!  It is a very crucial decision to make early out!  I am sooo glad my surgeon informed us that he had a patient who was drinking GIN and lying about it....she almost DIED....he did a blood alcohol test on her....and was able to save her, but drinking early out is DEADLY!

Dre'a and/or I used to post this once a year or more, but we haven't lately. We need to get back on it b/c too many people drink without knowing the consequences.
