Girl...TRUST ME...I will just listen because I am HORRIBLE with words when trying to comfort someone...just ask Neda!!!
Funny story....my BFF put her dog to sleep earlier this year. That dog was her LIFE. She had him for prolly 15 years. I went up to Maryland a few weeks after she had him cremated because she was so distraught. Well the remains were ready to be picked up while I was there. So we go to pick up the remains and this is how the conversation goes down.
BFF: (Crying) I didn't expect the box to be this heavy.
Me: Well Cody was a big dog.
BFF: (Still Crying) Looks at me like WTF?
Me: Nervous laugh
BFF: BUST OUT LAUGHING! Then says only your dumb ass would say something like that.
Girl...see what I mean?!?!?!?!? 
I love you too, sis....mucho mucho.

You're right; you're not one for conforting. LOL.. So, if / when someone close to me dies, I'll know to come to you if I need to laugh. :-)
