Yes, I am a little height challenged. But did I tell you I was cute! Lol, I just kidding.
How you doing Shani? You don't have long! You know I have been meeting to ask you since my first surgeon is your current surgeon, what made you do the DS? He never mentioned it to me when I was his preop patient, so I am wondering if he was even doing it then. Does Pat the nurse practitioner still work there?

How are you coming along? I first was looking to get the sleeve when I started researchin surgeries. But then I found out that Aetna wouldn't approve it for me. They did approve the DS, but I didn't know anything about it. The more I researched it the more it sounded like the perfect surgery for me. It still has the same stomach as the sleeve but it has the added malabsorption through a shorter common channel. This is where the maintenance part of the surgery comes in. For me, I knew I could lose weight with the sleeve but I needed that extra malab to give me a hand in keeping it off. I know my eating habits and some things I would not have a problem changing, but some of the things I lliked I wanted to continue eation. Full fat cheese, dressings, nuts, buffalo chicken wings, fatty soups, lots of protiens, and stuff like that. The DS malabsorbs 80% of fat that I ate. So if I ate something with 100g of fat, my body would only take in 20g. I would have to watch my carb intake because I wouldn't malabsorb those.

Dr. S like a lot of other surgeons do not shove the DS down people's throats because they usually want someone that has done all thier research and know about the other things the Ds demands. More vitamins, and more lab checkups because of all of the malabsorption. When I went to see him for a consultation he went on and on about the RNY. I had to convince him that I had my Ps and Qs together, then he knew I would be a good DSer. He has been doing them for many years though. People come form many different states to get a DS from him.

Yup Pat still works there...wit her skinny self lol
