Topic: RE: Newbie that needs advice
Welcome to the boards and your journey. I had RNY 3 years ago (wow I can't believe it's been that long) with Blackstone's office. It was truthfully the best decision I ever made for myself. I knew I wanted the RNY and not the lapband and since I didn't have a huge amount to lose, I didn't feel the DS necessary. I know Blackstone's office has also started doing a lot more VSGs recently so you may want to explore that option as well.
Good luck and I'm here if you have any questions.

Hey AZ peeps,
I am in Tempe and just joined yesterday. My PCP doctor told me I should have WLS but wants me to say away from the band, she recommended Dr. Blackstone as my WLS doctor.
I am still researching the different types of surgery, DS, RNY etc.
I would love to hear stories from anyone willing to share their experience and what made you choice which WLS to have.
I am 40, at 290#'s, and am 5'5, with BMI at 48.3. I don't think my insurance company will pay, I have Blue Cross of AZ. I think there is an exclusion, but checking it out.
Thanks in advance for your help!

New to this forum,,,but glad I found it. Surgery is scheduled for 5/18/11, and getting a little nervous. Such a big decision but I know its the right one. Kind of freaks me out to read everyone's stories. Is it wrong for me to want to bury my head in the sand and just go through blindly? I know the first 3 mos are a severe adjustment. Just hoping and praying the adjustments go well. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Dr Blackstone is doing my surgery next week! I can hardly wait! I don't know if you have actually met with her yet but I loved her! She was incredible at answering all my questions and concerns. What impressed me the most is you can truly tell she loves what she does, meaning she loves helping people. Wish me luck! And the best of luck to you!
Topic: RE: DS'ers in AZ?
Last time I saw Dr Juarez (in March) he told me he was going to start thinking about doing the DS but it would not be for at least 6 months. I would like to be revised to a DS but don't want to be a quinea pig for his surgery either

Topic: RE: Anyone go to mayo?
I am a patient there.... Dr Madura is my surgeon and I see a team of doctors for my care now. I know you can look on their website and most likely if you call, they will tell you that before a dr will see you, your medical records need to be sent to them. That's how it worked for me. I'd definitely give them a call.
Topic: RE: DS'ers in AZ?
Hi Ginger,
Dr. Schlesinger has done DS's for quite a while. I know that Dr. Husted is doing them and probably has been assisting Dr. Juarez in doing them, which is great. I don't know about any DS only support groups.

Topic: RE: Seeking patients of Dr. Hilario Juarez
I have nothing but terrible things to say about Dr. Juarez, but was happy with him until my first post-op. Now I'm just confused.
