Hi! I'm also starting the vsg process and I also started my process with WLIAZ. My BMI Is right at 40, I have Aetna ppo and was advised that bariatrics are covered under my plan, but they do require 3 months NUT visit, physicians letter and documented weight for the last 2 years.  So I had my initial consult with Dr DeBarros, did my blood work, gave them my physician list (which is crazy long as I recently relocated) . I had my 1st NUT visit on this day also; they gave me the info packet and the dietary guidelines for pre and post op! I'm so glad I found this forum, When are you hoping to have your surgery done?

I was wondering if any of you had any experience with OA in the Phoenix area? I'm really struggling with regain and the support system might be helpful.

The office staff at your surgeon's office should be checking on the insurance requirements of your plan. Check with them ASAP.

Good luck with your program!

Hi, Jerry. By now you have probably had your surgery. If so, I hope you are doing well. I just signed up on this site.

I have also started my process for the gastric bypass with Dr. Robin Blackstone at Banner University in Phoenix. Luckily, I have Medicare and a supplemental plan and my insurance plans do not require a lengthy supervised weight loss prior to the surgery. I just had to meet with the surgeon last month and then with the dietician and medical assistant this month. I still need to have 24 blood tests, an EDG biopsy (whatever that is), meet with the psychologist and get clearances from my cardiologist and pulmonologist.

Hopefully, I will have my surgery done next month.

I also go to Banner University for their monthly support group meetings. I hope you are taking advantage of something similar at Banner Gateway.

i am starting the process to get a VSG. I have bcbsaz ppo. I submitted my info to wliaz and the said my insurance would cover it and that I only required an 8 week supervised diet. My question is for anyone else in AZ with bcbs if you found this to be true. According to the bcbs bariatric policy 5 years of records showing morbid obesity is also required. The gal who told me I was approved said not to worry about that, they just want to be sure you haven't gained 120 pounds in 6 months and looking for a quick fix. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi, I am starting the process with Banner Choice Plus insurance and was wondering where you can find the insurance requirements for surgery? When I call they do not advise me on how long to do a diet program or anything else. Do you know what is required? I would like to get the ball rolling before my consultation.

Topic: RE: Best protein powder

Well for the Pre-made shakes (which are awesome cause I am always on the go) I would go primer protein.

As for the powders you have to look. I really like the Dymatize. It is reasonably priced ( as far as protein powders go), You can get it at one stop nutrition or GNC. They have several flavors as well. Its 25g of protein 2g net carbs, 2g of fat and about 130 cal.   I haven't Tried their Isolated formula but that is next on the list but it is more expensive.

Isolate brand also has an unflavored protein that I have fallen for you can add it to ANYTHING. 25g protein, 0 carbs 0fat and 100 cal.  I just had my surgery on the 12th so I am on clear liquids but I am adding it to my broths so I can maximize my nutrition intake. and there really is no flavor to it. I bought mine on Amazon but the should carry it at GNC as well.

I LOVED the Quest protein Bars and they now have a powder. If it tastes as good as their bars it would be a nice treat. The salted caramel protein I got to try is 22g protein 3 carbs 0 fat & 100 cal. They are defiantly more expensive so I would use them as a treat.

I have been doing protein shakes for just about a year now. Like everything else got to read the labels.

Hope this helps...

Trish
