How many pounds?
Can you call them and find out? That's what I did when I was considering surgery. I wanted to find out what my insurance required before I got all hyped up about it. I have Aetna and they required 6 mos of dr supervised weight loss. They didn't care if I lost or not, as long as it was documented 6 mos dr supervised. Just a hoop I had to jump through.
Some surgeons though require super obese individuals to lose 20 lbs or something like that before they schedule surgery, or to go on a liquid diet up to a week before surgery so liver and other internal organs are a bit leaner and don't get in the way of surgery.
So ask your insurance company PLUS your surgeon.
