Dr. Hillario Juarez
Hi,
I had my surgery a RNY on Feb 23, 04. Dr. Jaurez is a GREAT
Suregon!!! Yes it takes a while after you are approved to have
surgery. It took a total of a year from start to the surgery date.
I didn't like the hospital either.. the staff is horrible and uncaring.
They kept my roomate waiting to go to the restroom for 2 hours.
I had to waite over a hour for a refil of my pain meds in the pump!!
If you have surgery there make sure you have family or friends come
vist you, they can really help. Dr. Juarez office is extremly busy but
they are very nice. Sometimes you have to keep calling because it
takes a while to hear back. It is definitly worth it though!! He is very
nice and takes his time with you. I have lost 100 pounds and I feel
great no complications at all,. Make sure you go to all the classes
they are great and extremly helpful.
Best of Luck on your WLS journey! ~Jill
I am scheduled to have surgery by him on 8/24/04. I agree that his office is very busy and you do have to pester his office a bit, but his success rates are awesome and he cares about his patients. I will have a friend with me the first day and nite just in case. Give him atry- I work with about 15 people that had surgery by him and they all loved him and are doing great. Good Luck- the insurance crap is the worst of it I think.

Sally, A note on Dr Juarez, He is a wonderful surgeon, BUT he doesn't like it when people don't help themselves. I. E. after your surgery he expects you to get up and walk. walk walk. (I was up walking 2 hrs out of recovery) the nurses were not that bad. I personally had NO problems with him. He was kind and very caring. I was in on Monday morning had my surgery at 2:30 p.m. and was on my way home Wed. morning BUT I was walking every 2 hr. so I could get out of the hospital.
I personally don't think you could pick a better Doctor to do the procedure.
Good luck

85 lbs down.
PS Hubby had the surgery the week before and lost 20 lbs before he left hospital
Hi Sally,
Haven't had my surgery yet, but have met with Dr. Juarez 3 times. I am scheduled for October 7th. He is very honest and straight to the point when you ask him a question. I have read that he does not have a very good bed side manner, but I would not know that yet. I have done alot of research on him and found him to be the best around. I got approval in July and was scheduled for October. I was able to pick the day that I wanted because my kids will be on Fall Break. I have asked many many questions and he is very knowledgable and he doesn't skip a beat.
As for the hospital (St. Lukes), I asked Dr Juarez about that and he said that the hospital (up until a couple months ago) used "traveling nurses" and they were having alot of problems with patients being mistreated and not cared for properly. Dr. Juarez's office has nipped this in the butt. They told me that if I am not cared for in anyway during my stay, a pager number to reach someone and it will be addressed immediately! Even though, I am taking precautions and getting a private room and having a family member stay with me during the entire 3 day stay.
Good luck to you, Dr. Juarez is a wonderful choice.
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for all the information you gave. I was soooooooo concerned about the hospital staff at St. Lukes. I was afraid that if I really needed medical attention fast, that I wouldn't be looked after carefully. I am going to the seminar on September 10th, and I am looking forward to meeting with him one on one. Question: do you have to take all your information from your PCP to the seminar, or is that for the first visit with Dr. Juarez.
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOO much!!!!!!
