NEED LIST-AZ SUPPORT GROUPS!

When I was at the Bridges Center at St. Lukes in Phoenix to have my surgery, I noticed that conspicuously absent from my packet was a full listing of Arizona support groups. With so many people having to go to Phoenix to get the surgery and then leaving without knowing contacts for their local support groups, I thought it was a glaring omission. They said they are in the process of compiling one, but I keep thinking "How hard can it be to get one together and distribute it to all the doctors to put in their packets? If it's not done by now, someone like me should just simply take a day and do it!". So, in that vein, if you have a support group in your city, town or county and can get me the name of the contact person, a phone number and, if possible, an email contact, I will get a list made up and get it distributed to all the AZ bariatric surgeons I can get contact with. Thank you.

Hi, I started a list a few weeks ago on this board, but didn't get too many people adding to it. Browse back through old posts and you'll see a pretty good start at a comprehensive list. Connie

Great! Thanks! I just tried going to the "Peers" section and writing random post op patients who live in different parts of Arizona to try and find out if they know of any support groups, but the site's programming stopped me after 5 posts, thinking I was a spammer. Oh well. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. Meanwhile, I'll definitely go look for your previous posts and glean what I can. Thanks so much. I'll make sure to get you a copy of whatever I come up with in the end. - Stephanie J

Okay, the hmtl coding did not produce a link on here. Here is the link w/o coding: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/state-forums/AZ/postdetail/2630.html?vc=0 Sandra

There is also a new group in Chandler that meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Here are the details: Chandler WLS Support! Frye and Dobson @ the new Morrison Center, adjacent to Chandler Regional Hospital) 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm, followed by dinner out...... The very first meeting will begin on Thursday, June 22nd! It will have all of the same features that make many of the groups so comfortable and fun; an angel program, exercise expert, specialist speakers, potlucks, protein sampling, dining out experiences, etc. There is also a Yahoo group for the Chandler group. The address is: [email protected] Also to add to the comments on the other post about the Central Valley group. This group meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at Banner Mesa (Country Club and Brown). The meeting room is just off the cafeteria on the ground floor near the front entrance. Meeting time is from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Often several in the group continue on to dinner at a restaurant that caters to our WLS needs. (Copper Creek restaurant did a wonderful job for us last time!) Hope you can join us at one or the other or both meeting! Cheryl 269/167/150 (or 140)

Wonderful, Cheryl! I'll get that added onto my master list. I am still looking hard for any groups in other AZ cities, especially Yuma, Nogales, Wilcox, Sedona, Kingman, Flagstaff or the Four Corners region. If anyone has any leads, please let me know. - Stephanie J

I'm 12 days post op and live in the Awahtukee foothills. Is there a fee for this Chandler group? I have a free group to go to through Banner but it's downtown and I'd like to find something closer. Thanks for your help. Peace Chris Rau
