My wife (Patty Pelfrey - I'm her husband, Shell) has lost close to fifty pounds since her surgery, which was July 23rd; Patty lost the most weight in the first four weeks, close to 40 pounds, but she lost only 9 pounds this past month, which has left her very discouraged. I'm wondering if this is normal ? I know that everyone's weight loss(es) will differ after the gastric bypass, but I'd like to know what's the deal with others, so I can show it to Patty to reassure her that she's doing just fine, as I think she is. Thanks, Shell

Your wife is doing great! The first month after surgery you lose a huge amount of weight and then usually the second month you don't lose alot because the body realizes that "whoa I just lost a ton of weight really fast. Maybe I need to conserve some and go into starvation mode. " It is very healthy and allows the body to catch up a little. The weight loss will pick up again. I lost 30 the first month...10 the second month and 20 the 3rd month.
