Hi everyone! I am finally taking the plunge. I'm a 41 yr old mother of 4 and married to a physician that has been both my supporter & nay say-er. We attended Dr. Blackstone's seminar about 3 yrs ago but stalled on the follow through. My husband would often hear about the problems/complications of the lap band while @ work. He got nervous and backed off the idea of my having surgery. I am hoping & praying that complications will not arise if I am a compliant patient and follow the program to a "T" IE not cheat. I am really interested in reading and seeing how the long timers are doing. My hubby has seen his share of lap band folks who completely "fell off the wagon," again I have to believe this is the exception & not the norm!

I can't wait to be able to get some weight off so I can exercise pain free & with ease for once! It will be great to also be more active w/ my kiddos. They are 8,7,5 & 31/2 yr old...I hate that I can't play w/ them the way I want. I will also look forward to getting rid of my back, knee & ankle pains from having to support too much weight.

Well I can only assume that what i have said is common so I'll stop now & go read other posts! I look forward to getting to know others!
Take care
Be well
Suz :)

Welcome!!  Sounds like you are pretty excited about this journey.  There are some old timers around here and while they don't post often, I think they still read and post so ask questions...they will eventually get answered.

My 2 cents would be to make sure you have considered and researched all of your surgery options and chosen the right one for you, I think your husband is right to be a little leery of the lapband and its long term success.  It wasn't for me but there are some it has been successful for.

Blackstone's program is great and I wish you awesome success in your journey!

Hi Suz,

We would love to invite you to our support group on Friday evenings from 7-8:30pm.  Our support group is open to the public and for those thinking about surgey or those already on their journey.  It's great to have support from those who've been there!

I go for my initial assesment on March 3rd. Visited w/my IM yesterday and got my letter. I also had to have my throid Rx increased. I had my thyroid removed last fall; there was only a mico carcinoma w/clear margins (thank God) but that is enough to makle sure we keep my levels slightly surpressed.
I am stoked to F.I.N.A.L.L.Y. be getting on w/ all of this!!
I'll post again after my appt. thanks for the welcome!

re: "the invite to the support group"... thanks...but too far away!

I agree with the previous poster.  Make sure you have researched all available surgeries and have chosen the right one for you.  Many insurances are only allowing one in a lifetime.
