Introduction

My sister & mother had the laproscopic bypass about 7 years ago so I kinda know what I'm getting myself into, except I am having the "open" procedure.
To be honest with you I haven't done much research on the surgery I will be having and eventho' a lot of helpful information can be found here, I am finding some stories that I would rather not hear.
If I have problems I may or may not come here for advice, but I think it would be healthier for me to just deal with my own problems as they arise instead of learning about all of these potential consequences.
From a psychological standpoint, I believe if I am unaware that I could potentially experience "x,y,z" after my surgery, that I am less likely to experience those problems.
BTW, my mom & sister are both RN's in Louisiana so I have a great support system... I am just curious if you think I would be better off just trusting my Dr and my body to react well to the surgery, or get myself prepared for the hell that some people are experiencing.
Thanks,
Scott
My best advice to you is that everyone is an individual and handles each WLS in their own way. Some patients will need more support physically, emotionally and spirtitually along the way, while others seem to fly through the whole process and succeed with each step. Make sure you are informed of the procedure, pre-op and post-op, and you lifetime transformation. Utilize the resources that surround you when needed, and compliment your successes along the way. You will have lots of people to assist you, if needed, so never worry if you have questions or need assistance! It is all about you!

Are you having your surgery here at PVH? If so, then I will put you on my calendar to visit with you!

When are your support meetings?
Thanks for the nice note. Our goal is to provide "very good" care to all of our patients, and especially our WLS patients. Since this is a new service line for the hospital we are still working with educating staff on meeting the clinical needs of the bariatric patient, but each day is a new day, and our is embracing the new program. We only hope to continue the process each and everyday!

Be careful what you wish for, I may take you up on assisting me one day :)
BTW- I look forward to posting and assisting others, as time allows

One more question if you don't mind.
Will my incision heal faster or have less chance of complications if I work to strenghten my abdominal muscles between now & my surgery?
