Doctors Expect 55M Plastic Surgeries

Cosmetic Procedures Expected To Quadruple The American Society of Plastic Surgeons used data from 1992 to 2005 and economic variables to make forecasting models, according to a news release.

 

It said that growth will continue to be driven by non-surgical procedures. In 2005, 34 percent of procedures performed by ASPS members were surgical, and 66 percent were non-surgical  By 2015, 12 percent of the procedures will be surgical and 88 percent will be non-surgical, the prediction said. For non-ASPS physicians, surgical procedures will make up only 3 percent of their total procedures, while 97 percent will be non-surgical.

 

Though the president of the ASPS, Dr. Richard D'Amico, said the numbers are exciting, the group urged caution. It said surgeries are not a cure-all for many patients.

 

D'Amico also advised patients to find a surgeon certified by his group.
