epidural

Okay so I was watching a gastric bypass surgery on the internet and the doctor gave the patient an epidural. For those that have had surgery with Blackstone did she give her patients epidurals? This is freaking me out because in now way do I want a needle in my spin.

Why did they do that??  I  had my rny with Dr B and  no funky procedures .... I wonder if their was another issue that they did that ??
