Hello Everyone, I am so sick of grilled boneless chicken thighs, grilled fish, chicken soup, chinese style.....I want a steak and salad so bad!  However, beef does not digest well.  I've tasted Joyce's taco soup and that is good.  Anyone have the recipe? Joyce?  What is on everyone's menu 6 months post op?  Please no protein shake recipes.....I can only handle the vanilla..LOLOL  At this point and since I had my surgery I do not look forward to meals.  Prior to surgery I loved fine dining.  It caught up to me hence WLS.  Candy

Hey Candy, If you go to the main forum and look up EggFace, she always had new and wonderous recipes that she calls "food porn"  Not for newbies.  Can't hurt, cna it?

I have been watching her recipes for a while and there are some that we can use tho Candy is way ahead of us. What about shrimp, scallops, crab, etc?  I know we are not supposed to do this...the nutrionist cringe when it is mentioned but yes, we are going to be hungary for things we can not digest yet. Personally if I am hungry for a good steak and can't handle it then please tell me why I can chew it for the taste and then simply not swallow the rest? It's only temporary after all.  Like you Candy I did not get where I am today by eating junk food. My husband is from Boston and thankfully taught me a high regard for sal****er protein ;-)  Changes are setting in for me already as recipes that I would not have looked at twice now appear as tho they would be jummy.  Just yesterday I got a nice little recipe booklet from Fry's and was surprised how good some look. No bell peppers in this house as we do not tolerate them but salmon and sea food salads would be good Candy and have you ever cooked cod or haddock (if you find it PLEASE let me know ASAP) with a breading...might have to work around this now, but crumbled ritz crackers as a crust (I just leave them off these days) and then using the spray I Can't believe it is not butter I prepare the cod to bake, spray with the margarine, put a "nice" marinara or red sauce of choice over the fish and sprinkle liberally with a good mozarella. Cook in a skillet till fish is flaky or becomes opaque, then under a broiler quickly to melt the cheese, Cod ala Pizziaola...yummy I promise. I can already see that is going to be all about the seasonings.

Gena, The cod or haddock sounds good.   If I find some I'll let you know...ritz crackers is a tastey crust on fish.  Very close to eating fish and chips....Would love to have it with a garlic aioli.   I love seafood salads.  I totally forgot about them.  Great idea.  I'm growing my herbs in the backyard.   Hey thanks for the info.  If you come across any recipes you think I might like, please pass them on so I can make them.  I have parchment paper in the cabinet and sometimes I make pouches, through herbs, lemon, salt and pepper and cook on the grill.  It comes out tasty, but, I can only eat it so much before burn out....thanks for the ideas........perhaps we should put together an obesity help community cookbook of all stages with a variety of recipes from liquid stage to puree to introducing protein, vegetables and starch.. It would be nice if everyone would participate.  I could have used a cookbook during those stages expecially during the puree.  Puree makes me cringe....but, to reinvent puree to make the food appealing...... Candy...I think the recipe book is an excellent idea. I have never done so but members of my family have for the family reunions and they said it was quite easy as there a companies who help.  Cod is of course easy to find but not haddock and it is Jim's fav. It is a very deep cold, cold water fish. I have only had it when in the Boston area and it was simply wonderful. I can not wait to start cooking again. It has been a long time since I was able to stay in the kitchen, cook and then clean up. I love cooking.  I am hoping that Dr Juarez will advance me to stage 3 so I can have some seafood sald later this week. Gena

Since the revenge of Metformin has set in I can not seem to get enough water or Crystal lite!  Hard to loose so much fluids every evening after loading myself all day.  So...I decided I deserved some comfort food. What more could a kid raised in the south want at a time like this? Chicken and Dumplings!  Yes, of course I know...no chicken.  But the broth part with an extremely well mashed small very tender dumpling is mana from heaven!  While deboning the chicken I thought... what could it hurt to chew a bit of the chicken for flavor then throw it away with out swallowing?  It tasted wonderful and then.....Well, I forgot, truly I did   I swallowed...and I thought oh boy I am in trouble now!  Ok I know it was stupid but I bet everyone of you have done it before you should have....fess up?  Well, I waited, and waited and waited...nothing happened  but boy I could hear the lecture   from my nutritionist!  Counting myself very lucky I finished with the chicken and darned if I did not do it again.  All I can say is I was probably so lucky because it had just been stewed and was very moist. I can only hope that this means I will be one of the lucky ones who will be able to eat chicken with no problem....Ya Think?  I am day 12 post op now...Let us pray! Gena

Gena, Sounds yummie.  Chicken and dumplings are pretty soft and tender because they are stewed.  If you chew it to a baby food consistency you can tolerate it especially using the baby spoon and taking your time eating it. I would not eat beef though.   When I was a week post-op Dr. J said I could go on pureed foods.  I would eat about 1/4 of a cup once a day and still remain on the liquids.  Let's face it liquids are boring!!!  I ate a whole lot of cottage cheese about a 1/4 of a cup twice a day too.  Pureed food makes me gag just thinking of it so I pureed it in my mouth....baby spoons at a time.  Candy

Oh the broth is to die for! I had only 1 small teaspoon as this is my dinner  treat ;-)   I see Dr J on Thursday and hope he will advance me to the next stage. What I have been eatting is like pureed to me. Cream of Wheat, cream soup, etc. I got very brave and tried a few bites of cottage cheese which did wonders for my dropping BS.  Next is refried beans I hope. I bought a small container at KFC and very carefully tried a small amount, again no problems, but the ones I bought were scorched...good thing for me maybe?   Candy this brings up a question I have been wondering about and my hubby asked....considering I am basically eatting foods that slip right through me it is hard for me to know but for example, Cream of Wheat which is rather heavy....how much approximately should we be able to eat? I can eat 3 of the clear 30 ML med cups of cream soup, cream of wheat etc as long as I use my tiny little white spoon and eat slowly....but I find myself wanting a bit more the last day or so. Just do not want to start eatting more than I should at this point? Gena
