This just can't be normal....

Thanks everyone for the kinds words on the loser-side post!! I have a weird question... or maybe it's not weird I just haven't read about it yet. I have three days till my first appt where I eat "real food" for the first time. Today is the first day that I have actually wanted jello or anything besides water.  What's weird though is I don't think I am feeling "hunger" pains but I can't stop thinking about food!!  Everything sounds good... everything on TV looks good.  I am thinking about it more then I ever did before surgery.  I can't drink enough water or eat enough jello to get rid of this feeling. I had have a pretty good recovery in my opinion.  Before I left the hospital they said that I was basically on schedule or even a little head of schedule as far as the body getting back to where it's supposed to be and doing the stuff it's supposed to do.  Could this just be my body feeling like it's ready for real food a few days early too? I'm of course NOT going to eat anything solid... I don't wanna mess up this whole process. My belly is still pretty sore on the outside but I guess my insides are saying "FEED ME!"?!

Congrats!  I can't wait to be where you are right now.  I have no experience to share with you as I'm waiting for my surgery date, but I want to wish you the best, and hopefully I'll be asking questions soon also.

This is called "head hunger" and it is normal.  We obese/formerly obese have a long, long love affair with food.  We eat for any and all reasons and especially when we are not hungry.  This is the hardest behavior to change, but change you must and will.  Make sure when you eat you do so only when hungry, not because the clock 'said so" or for any other reason.  You will soon discover when your body needs food and not eat just because you want to.  Good luck.

I did a lot of reading on this. To date I havent had any problems with this. However if I smell something like say fry's I want to pick one up and eat it. This has only happened once. Im making sure not to put myself in the danger zone lol. Really Im like 5 weeks out and everything gets easier. There is so much u can eat, its just how and how much. There is a book..... b4 and after! READ IT! Good stuff. Also Eating well after WLS is also a great book. It gets easier! :)

Lori, It's head hunger...  It kicked in around day 5 for me.  I so wanted a Wendy's Double-stack cheeseburger and french fries.  It will pass, sometimes just looking at the nutritional contents of the foods we love was a turn off for me.  I made a deal with myself, I will have a Wendy's cheeseburger when I hit 100lbs.  Well, I eventually had it and I can say it sucked.   It is very weird, but ever since having the surgery, I love watching the food network.  You will appreciate the food you eat at your 1 week class...   Hang in there! ~Nicole

Hi Nicole I am glad to hear I am not the only one that loves the Food network. I have found that when I crave something I make it and let others enjoy.

Ahhhhh.... Food Network.  I call it Pudge Porn.  Since surgery, I have become a feeder.  Ironically, the more I cook, the less I eat.  I find that feeding everyone around me satisfies my urges for binging and over eating. Connie

Thanks AGAIN everyone!  I am finding this whole process has raised lots of  QUESTIONS.  I really appreciate all the advice everyone has to offer.  I don't know where I would be without this site.

I started laughing when I read this post. I too became addicted to the food network while recovering. I cooked everything from stuff crab cakes to casseroles, to desserts. But I too never ate any of it. I got great pleasure in watching my family eat. Some how that's all I needed. As for the cheesburger at Wendy's I could smell them when I drove past the store I wanted one so bad. When I did finally get to eat one I didn't even eat half it tasted so bad.  After about the first two weeks the hunger just went away. To this day I still have moments when I just push the food away and don't eat hardly anything.
