Fertility

Ok this perhaps is a slightly personal question but I was wanting to know if anyone has/had been trying to have a child prior to WLS but was unsuccessful, but after the WLS they managed to have a child. I know that weight is a huge factor in infertility and was wondering if the WLS had any positive or negative effects on the matter.

Sorry Garrett, I'm not much help there because we were blessed with 4 small children within about a 7 year time frame. I have heard stories of alot of things getting better after surgery, including personal intimacy. Now whether that translates to bouncing bundles of joy, maybe someone else here has a better idea. I have watched as family members and friends have struggled for years to parent a child. There's some pretty cool tech stuff out there to help such as in-vitro, and fertilization which has improved quite a bit over the past few years, but some of those things are quite costly. Chin up, and keep practicing (Can't hurt right???)

Ya we have looked into those but had elected to wait until after my surgery. So lets hope!

Hi Garrett, It's funny you ask this question. Just today I was talking to a friend of mine who had the surgery about a year ago. At the time, him and his wife were trying to conceive, but for some reason were unable to. Just when they were going to go to a specialist, he got approved for the WLS surgery and they decided to put the specialist visit on the back burner until after his surgery. Well today he told me that his wife just found out she is pregnant with baby number 2. He is so excited. He says his doctor told him it does make some difference because when you are overweight alot of times you get so tired and breathless during relations that you dont put your all into it if you know what I mean. I hope this helps and if you are trying to conceive with your significant other, I will pray that it works out for you. Keep me posted.

I'll let you know. We tried for 5 years prior to surgery and nothing... I just recently started again after surgery... so we shall see what 1 156lbs does. There are plenty of stories on the post-op pregnancy board of people who have tried for multiple years and became pregnant after surgery..... Im hoping I will be one of those stories too.
