you will always be diabetic...WLS does not cure diabetes. Getting the weight off, moving more controls diabetes. Diabetes can come back and rear its head at anytime. Sorry, WLS is not cure for diabetes. Wjat WLS surgery does is give diabetics hope for a bettr life without insulin or meds. I am very diabetic blood sugars in the 300 post op...now sugars in control, but still diabetic. I still take metformin 1000 mg 2x daily....a lot people are off their meds....I have 200 lbs off and still on meds---walk or hike 7-8 miles 2-3 times a week, now. I eat bread-rice potatoes, I feel the blood sugars move up---fast. If you do not believe me ask your endocrin dr. Sandy Dr. Fang 11/04/04 347/147/140
Thank you Sandy, but at no time did I say that I believe I was cured of the disease. I simply stated that the doc. was commenting on how I was no longer a diabetic. I reasearched the surgery for 3 years and was well aware that there are ups and downs. I also took Metformin prior to surgery. I took 2500 mg. a day. And immediately after my surgery I was taken off of them because my sugars had stabilized. I have been on nothing since. I am also very active and follow the program to a tee. I think the surgery was the jump start that I needed. Thank you for the comment. Have a good day.
