OT - Family member needs support during the Holidays!
Hey Everyone!
Please see the email message below from my grandmother.... it is in regards to my cousin and if you could send a Christmas card that would be absolutely wonderful and very appreciated! She is having a hard time, they are doing surgery Wednesday to remove her legs but in a crazy way this will be a good thing so the chance of infection will drop greatly. She is 34 and a mom of 3... she has made it so far and we just want her to know she is thought of and for her to feel the support.
Thank you and take care!
Jinnifer

Dear Friends - As many of you know - our grand-daughter, Kristy, was severely burned last May, with 3rd degree burns over 80% of her body, and remains in the Arkansas Burn Center in Little Rock. At that time she was given almost zero chance of survival, but with the superb care of the dedicated staff, the outside specialists, her will to live, prayers, and maybe most of all, God's will, she has survived and is showing improvement, but of course, her life is forever changed. She is finally off the venilator, and hopefully will be off dialysis soon. This week she had her first food by mouth since the fire - and while just 2 or 3 bites of pudding - it is a start. (She is looking forward to having a big cheeseburger ! )Also being measured for a pressure vest for her chest and back which she will wear for about a year, and will have the trach.tube about a year.( I have learned more about burns than I ever wanted to know.)But if all goes well after the next "big" surgery, she will soon be moved from isolation to a regular room which will be her home for the months/ years of continued treatment and care.
This is my idea that would give her a mental boost and pleasure during this time that has to be so depressing for her. When you are addressing your Christmas Cards this year - would you send a card for her, maybe with a brief note of encouragement and well wishes? When she does get to a regular room, I hope to have a literal big box full of cards waiting for her. So I am sending this to everyone in my address book, and asking you to please do the same, or to pass this to friends, clubs, church groups, etc. I would be happy if she had enough cards to take her months to enjoy them.
A few of you have asked about gifts - but right now, with all the ICU equipment, etc. there is no room for anything except the medical equipment. But once she gets to a regular room, we want to make it as much like a "home" as possible for her - with a TV. cd's and player, books on tape, personal items, etc. -and maybe she can trade bandages, dressings, and hospital gowns for some colorful robes !! So to those who wish, I would suggest a small cash gift to be used for her benefit. While this would be appreciated - understandably family finances are stretched thin - but I think cards to let her know that others care and wish her well would mean so much to her. She would not be able to personally thank you since she lost all 10 fingers in the fire, but on her behalf, I sincerely thank each and every one of you for your continued prayers for Kristy and you help with this project.
