Hello Karen, My husband is from Sydney--he has been in New York State for just past two years. He gets homesick now and then, too. We will visit within two years, but I don't know if we'll get to the Northern Territories. The closest we get to seeing Australia is the show Mcleod's Daughters! I am trying to get Laproscopic Gastric Banding, but it doesn't seem that my insurance will cover it. Meantime, I am trying to reduce on my own--very hard! Congratulations on your wonderful success. I just wanted to say hi from an Aussie admirer. Hooroo, Diane

Hello Jeannie, My name is Diane and I live in Utica, New YorK, USA. I am hoping to have Lap Band surgery, but the doctor here recommends only RNY, because statistics show that this surgery is successful in Australia but not in the USA. I weigh 317 and I am 5'8" in height with a BMI of 48. I have researched all the gastric surgeries & had two in depth consults with bariatric surgeons. I am 52 years old, a retired teacher. My health, save for this critical obesity is excellent. My sister is a Registered Dietitian who understands the nutritional changes post surgery. I have a therapist I see twice a month. I have overcome my old negative thinking & behaviors, and see her to reinforce the positive thinking and behaviors. My husband (an Aussie who is my heart's desire) understands the surgery and subsequent behaviors/eating plan. I tell you all of this because I would like your view of Laproscopic Lap Band surgery. You are a professional and I would appreciate your thoughts. Between my obesity, this cold winter, and Bush's re-election I am in a bit of a slump!

Hi Claire-- I lived in Alice Springs, NT, for 6 years, and now live in Denver, Colorado, USA, for the past one year. Had my Lap RNY this past August, and doing great. I'm down 71.5 lbs (I forget what that translate to in kg now). Good luck to you!! Missing Australia, Karen Noble

Hello Clare, Lap-band is just becoming popular here in the USA. Seems the doctors favor RNY. Good Luck!!!!! Lu

Hello!!! I am hoping to have lap-band surgery done at the beginning of dec 04, at the moment I mainly read posts at the lap-band forum but lately there seems to be a lot of negativity and *****ing mainly due to the fact i think that there are so many people getting the lap band now that the room has become less personal and overcrowded lol Anyway i know there are a few australians that post to this site and was hoping we may be able to get this room up and running
