hi, Just wanted to say hello from clear across the world. Have always wanted to come to Austraila but never could afford it. Keep on posting as it helps me also as I scan the different countries. I had it done in 11/05 and have lost 69 pounds and have 34 to go. I am a senior citizen - work as an RN yet- and hope you dont mind helping the older generation. LOL Colette

Hi Helen Its great to see your message. Sounds like you are doing great. Im been on a platu since moving to melbourne 4 months ago it gets pretty annoying but at least Im not gaining. I still have about 60lbs to go to get to my goal. We are having a blast here in Australia. I had the RNY in July 04. Thanks for all the useful information you have given me since coming to australia it is greatly appreciated. Kathy Melbourne Au

HI, Gabrielle, you are so right. This group is so helpful. I know we had different surgeries, but there is a lapband forum, that you could go to as well, that could be really helpful. even if it is only to get some new tips. Good luck Helen

Hi Helen, Thought i'd say 'HI'. I'm from Canberra and had lap-band surgery about 2 years ago. I haven't looked at this website lately but I think more Aussies need to be aware of it as it's a great source of information. Gabrielle

Hi everyone, well I havnt checked this forum for such a long time, because it seems like no one really came here. I usually hang around on the main message board. It has been over 13 months since I had my RNY gastric bypass in Sydney and havnt actually met anyone else who has had this done, as you all know banding is the popular choice here. I would love to chat, help, advise, support, any of you on your journey with WLS. Please feel free to contact me here any time. I come to the main message board every day, and so will try to check in. Hey, Ive been coming here long enough that I know what you should be eating, where you can buy protein etc etc , so ask me, what ever question you like, or maybe you would just like to chat with someone who knows how you are feeling, especially in the early what the..... did I do to myself stage. keep in touch Helen

Hi Kylie, I have just gone to the aussie forum and seen your post. How are things going now? How far along are you? Did you have RNY? Im over 13 months post op now, so may be able to help you with any questions you have, or just to lend y ou a supportive ear, if you need it. I see you live in WA, so it probably will be harder for you to meet any one else over there than it has been for me here in Sydney!! Ive not actually "met" anyone else that has had bypass, but who knows , with a few more newbies like you and norman on here, we could just get a group together!! keep in touch , Helen

Hi Norman, how are you going? I have only just gone to the Australian Forum, after such a long time of no replies, I usually dont check. It is difficult to find someone else to talk to in australia that has had RNY, isnt it? I had mine done last April 4, 2005. I am the worlds slowest loser, but still I work hard at it. I hope things are going well for you. Please feel free to contact me via my email and as I am an old hand at this now, may be able to help you with any questions you may have, regarding diet etc. I am so glad to have found someone who lives close by, I live in West Pennant Hills, so not too far at all. Keep in touch, Helen

Jan ; I had the VERTICAL BANDED GASTROPLASTY ( stomach stapling ) operation done in 1982 when I was 19 at that time I weighed about 150 kgs as a consequence of this surgery I lost about 70 kgs , but over the years I regained all of that weight and then some . I tried everything to shed these KGS and eventuallly my gp refered me to a surgeon to see if it would be possible for me to have the lap band , but I was informed that my previous surgery made it risky ( the band could erode into the wall of my stomach ) and that it might not even be possible , thus making a gastric bypass my only real option . That operation would also have a high risk because of the complications presented by my previous surgery , so it took another 16 months before I FINALLY decided to have it done . I am now 3 weeks post op and on the road to recovery , the VBG operation is no longer practiced as it had a high failure rate and the lapband has made it obsolete.
