Topic: RE: big ifs...
ps
Actually it is something for me personally- I am not writing a paper or publishing anything- just want to know if others think this might be a useful tool or approach to WLS. The only thing I would do with the info is make a post of the results here on OH. And if there is anything significant- I hope it can be helpful for others to see and find something maybe they weren't aware of or didn't think of.

Topic: big ifs...
I'm posting on several boards to get as much response as possible- Thanks!
Hi everyone,
It's been on my mind for a while and I ahve decided to take action. So, I thought I'd put it out there, see what comes back and depending on the response, try to put together set of a comprehensive results. Thanks in advance for your help ( and for not FLAMING me... !
If you had to take a "written" test to help you understand if you were prepared to deal with, take on, cope with WLS, would you take it? What quetions would be on this test?
If there were a test to help you determine where you needed to improve your skills and habits in order to have a successful WLS, what would be on it?
If there were a test you could take periodically to assess your strengths and weaknesses in your pre- and post-WLS progress, would you use it? What topics would it cover?
if there were a workshop for your "circle of support" to take to help you on your journey, would you ask them to participate? Why or why not? Would this be a one shot deal or a series of workshops?
If there were a test devised to suggest and/or assess which WLS would be most successful for you, would you take it? What questions do you think should definitely be on it?
If there were an assesment you could use to determine if your WLS medical team was a good fit for you, would you use it? What questions would be on it? What info would you "have" to know?
How would you define WLS "success"?
How would you define being "WLS-challenged"?
Thanks again!!!!
Topic: gas pains after lap band surgery
Can anyone give me any kind of tips on getting rid of this horrible gas pain. It is 5 days after surgery and everything is fine, no nausea, no pain from the surgery, but the gas pain is seriously impeding my recovery. It started straight after I came too from the surgery in the form of having a hard time taking a breath and day by day has moved up my body. It is now in my throat and feels like a giant air bubble. When it comes on my head feels like its crushing and it feels like someone is choking me. It's incredibly painful. I have tried Milanta, nothing helps. The doctor keeps telling me it will pass and to move around (I AM) but still it is there. Please, if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. I need to get back on my feet, I am a single parent and cant be like this.
Topic: RE: :help: Can anyone help with editing my profile please???
Hi Toni,
Just happened to be on the Austrailia message board this morning replying to an email.
I have a couple of suggestions.
1) Go to the USA Main Messege Forum. There are a couple of Tutorials that could be
useful for you. :
2) Actually write to the OH folks . See at the top of the web page where it says Help.
Way at the top.
Those are my suggestions. Good Luck

Topic: RE: Shoutout to Sydney OHer's
Hello Kylie
Thankyou so much for responding. I have been emailing back and forth to one of the Sydney residents a bit and she has given me some good information.
You are right, if the company doesn't sell in AU then there is my answer and pretty much the results have been dismal. Sigh
So , it looks like I will be lugging in a couple of jugs. What the Hay..... it's only ten or fifteen pounds that I could have used on shoes.
The big hang up is that we are stopping in Hawaii before our Sydney flight. Flights in the US are limited to 50 pounds per bag and overseas flights are limited to 75 pounds. So between my DH and I we lose 100 pounds of baggage. (Since we are each allowed 2 bags each) Probably don't have any business bringing that much anyway.
But a girl has to have her shoes, right!?!?!?!?!
Anyway thanks again for replying.
Take care
Nancy S.

Hi,
Sorry I don't live in Sydney, but my best advice to you would be to contact the makers and see if they have suppliers in Australia and go from there. As well I would do an internet search for suppliers in Sydney. If you draw a blank there's your answer.
While there are protein mixes available, usually in health food stores and places that supply body builders ect, I am not sure they sell the brands you are used to.
Good luck
Kylie
Topic: RE: Getting a lapband "re-installed"
I know that the placement is different now (pars flaccida technique now not the perigastric technique). They note fewer complications (not zero, but less) with this newer technique. I don't know if the band itself has changed much...
I know people that have had their band removed for slips (which is almost never done unless so severe like yours). One lady got her new band within 2 months of her slip. She's doing great now. You can even get a new band after erosion, which really does a number on the stomach.
There is a lap-band forum here where you could get lots of info. You'll find the majority of people from the US there:
http://obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/a,messageboard/board_id,5359/
The format is a bit different.
I hope this helped!

Topic: :help: Can anyone help with editing my profile please???
I am having a lot of trouble completing my profile because I can't type in some boxes, i.e., my introduction and BLOGS.
I can't even reply to a few messages that I've received. Anyone else had this trouble and can help.
I thinnk it has something to do with the Editors.
Cheers, Toni
Topic: Shoutout to Sydney OHer's
Hi All you Down Underers
My name is Nancy and my DH and I are going on a cruise that leaves out of Sydney on April 3. Oh I am so excited!!!
OK here is my question. I really don't want to have to pack my huge tubs of protien mixes in my fly in luggage(weight problems with luggage) or go through customs with them. So.... where do you folks go in Sydney to buy protien..
Please tell me that you don't have to internet order them. That would defeat my whole purpose.
Here are the ones which are my mainstays. Syntrax Nectar Wild Cherry, Syntrax Nectar Cappuccino, Protien Delite Coconut Almond. Do any shops sell those brands?.
OR what do you guys LOVE that is available locally. Maybe I will find a new flavor that I cannot do without.
Sure would appreciate any information that you could provide me.
Also, I will be in Sydney for about a week before we leave. Would love to meet some Aussie OHers. Could we plan something. That would be so AWESOME and FUN!!!
Thanks for your help in advance.
