Topic: RE: Shoutout to Sydney OHer's
Hi Kim,
Well that trip was LAST year. (Sigh)
We had a WONDERFUL time. It is a trip we will never forget. Now (of course) I would like to go back.
Never had any problems with the protien powders that I took. All were in sealed envelopes (like sample packets) and a small sealed container.
Never really "declared" it either.
Thanks for the response and best of luck on your surgery. It really is the way to go. A whole new life awaits you.

Topic: RE: one week pre-op and counting!!
Hi Jennifer
I am booked to have my sleeve surgery on the 14th February (a great date to remember). I choose the sleeve for the same reasons you did as I didnt want the restrictions of not being able to eat red meat and breads etc. My problem is volume as I have a really large appetite.
I am now 106kg (down 2kg) since started Optifast. Am a little nervous about my surgery as I have 2 small children to come home to. What can I expect as far as my recovery is concerned.
Also I have some really old friends coming over from Canada a month after my surgery. Will I be able to enjoy a glass of wine with them???
Anyway wish me luck.
Regards Kim

Hi Nancy
I live in Sydney however am yet to have my surgery.
I'm not sure what ingredients the protein shakes have in them (apart of course from protein) however you better check you can even bring them into Australia as we have REALLY strict quarantine laws here. I once bought some salad dressing back from Canada that was unopened however it had egg product in it and I couldnt bring it in.
You may want to contact AQIS to check with them on whether you can actually bring it into Australia.
Have a wonderful trip.

Topic: RE: Any DS'ers out there??
Hi Sarah
I have only recently joined obesity help today and hence I am not familiar with alot of the terms. Can you please tell me what a DS is?
I am booked in to have a Sleeve Gastrectomy with my surgeon Dr John Jorgenson in Sydney on the 14th February. The reason I choose the sleeve v's the band was the restriction with food. He said most people that have the band cant eat red meat and chicken breast and I LOVE red meat and chicken breast. I eat a fairly healthy diet but just eat WAY TOO MUCH. Thats the reason why I choose the sleeve to reduce my intake.
I'm currently 106kg (was 108kg) but started taking optifast last friday and have lost 2kg. My surgery is in 2 weeks from tomorrow so I'm a little tentative but just want to get it over and done with.
I have 2 small children (3yrs & 1yr) and am wondering what my recovering is going to be like. They say no lifting but for how long?
Good luck with your surgery in March and look forward to hearing from you to explain what the DS is.
Cheers Kim
Topic: RE: Laparoscopic Sleeve Gasterectomy
Hi Clyde
I am in a similar situation to you, although I have my sleeve surgery booked for February 14 (a great date to remember).
My surgeon explained to me that alot of people cannot eat certain foods after the band although 6months after the sleeve most foods are tolerable. That made the decision for me. I love red meat and chicken breast and on the whole I eat really healthy foods. My problem is volume - I have a huge appetite.
I have lost weight in the past currently I'm 108kg and have a bmi of 38. I have always had great willpower to loose the weight but never able to keep it off. Now after having 2 kids and reaching that magic 40 I find I'm unable to loose 1kg let alone 35kg.
So wish me luck for Feb 14.
Cheers Kim
Topic: RE: BPD
Hello There My name is Linda and I had a BPD in 2002. I haven't been on the OH website for a long time. I don't know where you are with this question as you posted it a while ago. If you're still interested, let me know and I'll do what I can. I am verrrry happy with the outcome of my BPD though I had a much longer recovery than I expected. However, five and a half years later I'm maintaining my 60kg weight loss with few if any problems. Best wishes, Linda

Hi Sarah I'm Linda and I am five and a half years post surgery. I haven't been on the OH website for a long time so I'm afraid I don't know what a 'DS' is. I had a bilio-pancreatic diversion (quite a mouth-full) in 2002. However, if I can be of any help, I'm happy to keep in touch. I was 137kg and maintain (with little effort) 77-79kgs which is good for my 174cm height. I wish you best of luck, an easy recovery and future success. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Sorry I haven't figured out how to post a photo yet. Linda

Topic: RE: Any DS'ers out there??
Hi Bree, i was banded 3 years ago and i managed to loose only 20Kg and so it hasent worked for me personaly but it does work for may others, i guess it depends on the person. Ultimately i am tired of not being able to eat everything and always scared that somethin is going to get 'stuck', i rarely go out to eat ever since i got the band realy. Sorry dont mean to scare you! I have read many stories from DS'ers (if you look on the DS forum) who have terrific WL and are able to eat almost everything and dont have to worry about the 'stuck' issue. So i think that sums it up. Hope ive been helpful! Ask any questions you like.
And good luck with the surgery! Where r u getting it done? What surgeon?
Sarah
