Topic: New to the group
Hello everyone My name is Debbie and i am from Adelaide. I am booked in for surgery on the 10th of june, after much back and fro i have decided that the sleeve is my choice, even though my surgeon had more or less talked me into the band. So when i see him on the 24th of may i'm going to tell him that i want the sleeve which was my first original choice. He commented that the sleeve has only been done for about 3yrs in australia so i would like to hear from anyone who has had the sleeve as to have you been able to keep the weight off, have you restretched the stomach? Starting weight 109kgs, bmi of 44.8......gosh that sounds terrible!!!!! It's been a 30yr battle and i finally realised that i'm not winning the battle, it just keeps creeping up....mind you i blame the 5 kids...lol So am nervous but excited at the same time. Thank goodness i finally found a site for us in australia. Debbie

Topic: RE: NEW ADELAIDE SUPPORT GROUP - First Meeting Date
Hi Toni I am booked for surgery on june 10th with Dr Leong at salisbury, I was originally thinking of the sleeve but then after my first meeting with him i was sort of talked into the band, however i have spent quite a lot of time on different sites and have gone back to my first instinct and when i see him on the 24th of may am going to tell him that i want the sleeve. The thought of 'stuck' food and the limitations of foods you cannot eat have convinced me to stick to my guns. I had sent you an email but as yet have had no reply. I would really like to be part of the support group, can you please let me know when and where. wings

I would love to hear from any one who had a by pass surgery (Roux-E-Y) I am scheduled to be operated on by the end of June. I am obese, with type 2 diabetes, (not well in control) together with high blood pressure. My doctor advised me that, many of my problems will be solved by loosing weight, he also advised me to have that Gastric by pass operation. I read too many pro's and con's about it. I would love to hear what are the complications developed after the operation? And what sort of life do you now lead? Capco

Hi Ros, sorry I took so long to reply, just got in from a weekend away. Alas, our group is no more. It was not feasible due to distance people had to travel. There is another support group that I know of but only people from that surgeons practice are able to attend. I find most of my support from this site in weight loss grads. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hope things improve soon. regards kath

Dear Ashley, Hi, my name is Rossie, and after reading your post, I felt for you.I had a Bilio Prancreatic Diversion, back in 1998. I have had a pretty rough road though. My top weight was 163kg...I am happy to say that if you truely have a sweet tooth, then this op is for you guaranteed to bring your weight down to a third to what you are now. This is what I was told, by my surgeon. Otherwise. I would of had the lap band op, but being a sweet eater myself. This is why I opted for the bpd....good luck with your journey..feel free to post me any time. I am am proud to say, that I am at 60kg now! and I really love my new life. Look forward to being reborn again Ashley! Regards Rossie!

Topic: RE: Pain !
Hi mark, I really do feel for you. I had my bpd nearly 10yrs ago, and I had alot of pain as well. Oh...Congratulations! Your new life is about to start!I stayed in hospital for about 8 days, so dont be so concerned, as the pain will ease, day by day. Mark, if it makes you feel any better....I was 163kg when I had my life change for me. i got very sick about 3yrs ago with a bad bug, that nearly killed me. I was back in hospital for the 3rd time in 10yrs, for a long 3months stay. I was told that if I got that thin, that it was not funny...38kg! I was shocked when I sore the scales.I could barely walk. So, after my long battle...in hospital, I was back at home, still with some fluid in my legs. Well, I can proudly say that, I have kept out of hospital now for nearly 3yrs, and at a healthy weight of 60kg! Just, remember to get those multivitamins like vitaBdeck! I take 2 daily, and supplement drinks as well, and a low fat diet....for life! I wish you all the best for the op. I know, you are gonna, love the new you! good luck for the future, and I sympathize your pain with you...but u are over the worst of it ! Keep your chin up...and stand proud! And watch those kgs fall off! tc...cheers Rossie!:-D

Hi, my name is Rossie, I have had a bpd, 10yrs ago. I would like to hear from other people, that have kept their weight at bay?I was 163kg at my heaviest, and at one stage 3yr ago I was really sick for a 3month stay in hospital at 38kg was a shocker.I had fluid pouring out of my legs and a bad infection in the gut. After my 3rd stay in hospital, I put on 20kg with all the food and protein that they were pumping into me, and finally they let me go home. Now 3yr later, I am very healthy, and 60kg 5'3 I have osteoporous in my lower back and both hips now as I really was sick with a albumin (protein) level at .8, when entering the hospital...now my protein level is back at the normal range of 45. My life has changed so much now,I do feel like a completely new woman now! Even the texture of my hair has changed. I can now walk through the malls, and not feel self conscious. And yes, there has been many changes in the last 10yrs as well as the way they can perform the op now. I have a 30cm scar, where no sleeve surgery was avaiable in 1998. I look forward to hearing a reply from you.My surgery, has truely changed my life. How do you feel about your surgery 21yrs ago?Are you glad that you had your surgery...back then?Do you feel that, you have enough energy everyday now?I am 5'3 and 42yrs old and sitting on the 60kg figure. I feel like everyday is a blessing in it self now.How do u feel generally?Do you do much exercise?Another thing that has happened after 23yrs....is my menstral period has returned last month!I am considering having another baby...but I must do somemore research first to make sure that everything will be ok...health wise that is.Anyway,so how life for you?I guess some days its better then others.I find now that the climate, does affect me,and if I dont wear the right clothing for the day, that it can affect my blood pressure. I find that if its going to be a really hot day, I must be careful, that I dont walk straight into a air conditioned shop, as my blood pressure generally drops dramatically, when I exit the shop and then I faint. Otherwise, life is pretty good. When I am in large shopping centres, I still get a little self conscious, and dont like people staring at me.I feel that i can fit into society better now, and dont stand out like a sore thumb now.I hope this was some interesting reading for you. cheers Rossie! I look forward to hearing from you! :-)
