Hi I am 7 years post op. My husband & I are considering a trip to Australia. I have never been so I need advice. Where should we start? How long to stay? Where to stay? What is a must see? Where can I find a support group along the way? How is the food down there? Do I have to bring protein bars and shakes? I would love any help you can share. I am from sunny Florida. Oh and when is the best time to come???? Thanks for your help Paula

Hi Paula, I can answer some of your questions... I'm an Aussie now living in Canada. Fall and Spring are the most comfortable seasons to travel in Australia... October through to December is really nice... the weather is relatively mild. The East coast can be quite humid during the summer months...much like Florida in August (memories of WDW flooding back!). The west coast doesn't suffer from the same humidity issues. During Feb/Mar the north of Australia is affected by the tropical weather associated with the equator. Think hot, humid, yuk. Must sees... this is a huge question and it really depends on how long you plan to be in Australia My suggestions: Sydney - lots of historic interest, especially in the Rocks are. Beautiful beaches. Melbourne - is a lot like Toronto or New York... think shows and multi cultural Ayers Rock - this is a big trip inland but worth it. Do Kakadu at the same time. Perth - the west coast is just beautiful. Wineries, beaches, golfing. Google wild flowers Western Australia for the timing... this is something to see Queensland - the great barrier reef, the rain forests. There is so much to see and do in each state... what I suggest is pick the one thing that really intrigues you and then build your trip from there. Have fun... Australia is an amazing country and well worth the visit.

HI Paula, Great to hear that you are planning a trip to Australia. I am not from Austrlia, I am from New Zealand. Not sure if you know where that is. But I am also a travel agent so have alot of knowledge on the country. I saw the response from an ex Australian and yes her ideas are great. It all boils down to how long have you got , what are your interests? As far as the food is concerned , its pretty much the same as USA. Just smaller portions and us folk "down under" don't tip. Yes you can tip but it is not expected. However , as a result you may not good the same level of service that I have experienced in USA. Protein bars are readily available and so are protein shakes and yes we have electricity down here. tehhehe. However on that subject, we use 240volts and you have 110volts so you wont be able to use your appliances like hairdriers because it will blow up with twice the voltage but I think you can buy an adapter but check that out.Customs are very strict on entering Australia and New Zealand so if you do bring any protein powder , make sure that it is in its original packaging NO products containing milk or milk powder are allowed to be imported.
